Thompson, CT — The Saturday portion of the 51st Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway is on as scheduled for Saturday, March 29, as is Friday’s planned Practice Day. However, due to continued rain and cold temperatures forecasted for March 30, the entire Sunday schedule of divisions and events have been moved to Saturday, April 5.
The published schedule for both Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 are still a go with an improving forecast. All originally planned events, times and pricing will remain the same for both Friday’s Practice Day and Saturday’s Day #1 of Icebreaker weekend, including the Monaco Modified Icebreaker 75.
Sunday’s postponement comes on the continued unfavorable forecast calling for cold temperatures and rain. The cooler temps bring challenging track drying conditions in any sort of timely fashion if the forecasted rain falls. This forced officials to take advantage of next weekend’s rain-date for the March 30th portion of the Icebreaker.
Now, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 will now go green on Saturday, April 5 along with the originally scheduled season opener for the Late Models, Street Stocks, SK Light Modifieds and Thompson Sunoco Modifieds. An updated schedule will be released by both NASCAR and Thompson Speedway officials in the near future.
“This is obviously not how we wanted to start our season,” said ACT managing partner Cris Michaud. “We’re glad the forecast grew better for Friday and Saturday, but Sunday has taken the brunt of this uncertain weather pattern. Both Tom (Mayberry) and I are excited to get things started on Saturday before making a grand finale to the Icebreaker next weekend with the Whelen Modified Tour.”
Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will open for its 86th season with the 51st Icebreaker, beginning on Saturday, March 29 with optional Friday practice on March 28. Highlighted by the return of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series the PASS Super Late Models on Saturday, the Icebreaker gets its deserved grand finale the following Saturday, April 5 with the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour!
