Thompson, CT — With the continued chances of rain remaining steadfast on Friday morning, Thompson Speedway officials have made the difficult decision to once again postpone the remainder of the planned 51st Icebreaker festivities, this time to the new Wednesday, April 16 date.
American-Canadian Tour and Pro All Stars Series officials were in contact with NASCAR officials from Monday on, attempting to make new plans for the event as a rain-soaked forecast continued to stare officials in the face. An attempted contingency plan to move the event ahead one day to Friday night, the best weather-wise for the weekend, was quickly shot down for lack of traveling teams. At that point ACT and PASS officials held several meetings with Thompson Speedway to decide on the open Wednesday, April 16 date.
As previously scheduled, the second portion of the 51st Icebreaker will contain the same divisions. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 presented by FloSports.com will headline the new Wednesday, April 16 date with support from the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, SK Light Modifieds and Street Stocks for a five-division showcase to finally wave the checkered flag on the 51st Icebreaker.
“We tried a couple different plans to get this show in sooner but landed on the open April 16 date which doesn’t conflict with the Road Course schedule and falls during Connecticut and Rhode Island school vacation,” said ACT managing partner Cris Michaud. “The extended forecast looks great, and both Tom (Mayberry) and I are looking forward to getting the Icebreaker completed under the best possible weather conditions.”
Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park is back in action for the second portion of Icebreaker weekend, delayed by poor weather once again to Wednesday, April 16. Highlighted by the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 presented by FloSports.com, the new Wednesday, April 16 date will also include the season opener for the Late Models, SK Light Modifieds and Street Stocks while the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds complete their Icebreaker double features. The full schedule and pricing will be released by Monday afternoon.
