(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted AZ Roofing Kids Night on Friday, May 30th, the first of three kids nights scheduled for the 2025 season.  Keith Rocco was a SK Modified® winner for a second consecutive race, while Wayne Coury, Jr. won the Late Model feature, Chris Matthews won the SK Light feature, RJ Surdell won the Limited Late Model feature, and Bert Ouellette was a winner for the second time in 2025 in the Street Stock feature.  There were two kids big wheel races with Memphis Genereux and Evan DaRos the winners.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Dylan Kopec and Steven Chapman ran wheel to wheel for 2 laps before Kopec got clear into the lead on lap-3.  Troy Talman was now alongside Chapman for second with Wesley Prucker in fourth and David Arute and Todd Owen wheel to wheel for fifth.  Talman went by Kopec on lap-6 to take over the race lead.  Behind him Chapman touched wheels with Todd Owen, which sent his car into the turn 2 wall and brought the caution flag out with 6 laps complete.

Talman took the lead back under green with Prucker slotting into second.  Kopec was third in line with Owen in fourth looking to the inside of Kopec and Dylan Izzo fifth.  With 15 laps complete it was still Talman in command followed by Prucker, Keith Rocco, Owen, and Marcello Rufrano.  The caution came out with 15 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Arute with Tyler Chapman and Art Caruso hitting the turn 4 wall.

Talman took the lead on the restart while Rocco moved into second.  Rufrano took third behind Rocco with Jon Puleo moving up to fourth and Owen taking fifth from Prucker.  Rocco made a move to the inside of Talman on lap-19 and he took over the lead.  Rufrano followed him by Talman to move into second on lap-20.  Puleo was right behind Rufrano and he took third from Talman on lap-21.  Talman came right back to the inside of Puleo on lap-22 and he retook third place.  Prucker was still running fifth with Anthony Flannery and Alexander Pearl right behind him.

Puleo went by Talman on lap-30 to move into third while Rufrano was still trying to get around Rocco at the front of the field.  David Flammia, Jr. spun coming out of turn 4 to bring the caution out with 33 laps complete.

Rocco took the lead on the restart with Puleo and Rufrano going wheel to wheel for second.  Puleo took second on lap-35 with Talman in fourth and Pearl fifth.  Flammia and Wade Gagner spun coming out of turn 2 to bring the caution flag back out with 35 laps complete.

Rocco took the lead again on the restart while Rufrano made a slick move to the inside of Puleo to take second.  Puleo spun and collected several other cars including Kopec, Gervais, and Mikey Flynn to bring the caution back out with 36 laps complete.

Rufrano briefly took the lead on the outside of Rocco on the restart but Rocco drove strong into turn 3 on the inside of Rufrano and he emerged back in the lead.  Talman was third in line behind the two leaders with Flannery in fourth and Pearl in fifth.  Prucker’s car came to a stop in turn 4 to bring the caution out with 39 laps complete and set up a green white checker finish.

Rocco took the lead on the restart with Talman and Rufrano side by side for second.  Rocco took the checkered flag to pick up his second consecutive win of the 2025 season.  Talman edged out Rufrano at the line for second with Flannery and Pearl rounding out the top-5.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Wayne Coury, Jr. charged into the lead at the start of the race with Chris Meyer taking second.  Chris Buffone and Duane Noll were door to door for third with Bobby Stirk, III in fifth.  Buffone took third on lap-2 to drop Noll back to fourth.  Darrell Keane and Kevin Gambacorta both spun through the frontstretch grass to bring the caution flag out with 4 laps complete.

Coury took the lead on the restart with Meyer holding off a charge from Buffone to maintain second place.  Stirk was up to fourth with Andrew Durand in fifth.  Buffone was looking high and low for a way around Meyer but Meyer was able to hold him off for the time being.  Durand and Stirk got together and spun through the frontstretch grass and into turn 1 to bring the caution flag back out with 7 laps complete.

Coury and Meyer again occupied the top-2 spots on the restart with Alexandra Fearn moving into third.  Paul Varricchio was up to fourth and Gambacorta was back up to fifth after his early race spin.  Buffone took fifth place from Gambacorta on lap-10 while Fearn was looking for a way around Meyer for second.  Gambacorta got back by Buffone on lap-14 for fifth place and Buffone would lose another position as Durand took sixth.  Coury was still in the lead with Meyer, Fearn, and Varricchio giving chase at the halfway point of the race.

Fearn was finally able to make a move to get by Meyer on lap-18 to take over second place behind Coury.  Varricchio and Gambacorta both followed her by Meyer to take third and fourth and drop Meyer back to fifth.  With 5 laps to go it was still Coury in command followed by Fearn, Varricchio, Gambacorta, Meyer, and Durand.

Coury took the checkered flag to score his first win of the 2025 season in dominating fashion.  Varricchio finished second with Gambacorta, Fearn, and Meyer rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap SK Light feature event, Chris Matthews took the lead at the drop of the green but Robert Bloxsom, III charged into the lead going into turn 3 and he had the lead at the end of lap-1.  Nick Anglace took second from Matthews on lap-2 with Meghan Fuller fourth and Paul Arcari fifth.

Anglace worked his way to the inside of Bloxsom on lap-4 to take over the race lead.  Matthews was still third with Fuller and Arcari behind him.  Bloxsom came right back to the inside of Anglace on lap-6 but the caution flew2 for a 3-car spin in turn 1 involving Jason Finkbein, Sophya Papp, and Zach Aszklar.

Fuller spun in turn 3 on the restart, which collected the cars of Stephen Kalogiannis, Steve Midford, and Kyle Pinkham to bring the caution back out before a lap could be completed.  Nickolas Hovey nearly got collected but he was able to drive away with some slight damage to his right rear tire.

Anglace took the lead on the restart with Matthews and Bloxsom side by side for second.  Matthews worked his way to the inside of Anglace on lap-7 and he had the lead by a nose at the line.  Bloxsom nearly went 3-wide with Matthews and Anglace on lap-8 but backed out of the move.  Casey Vogt was up to fourth with Hovey side by side with Peter Bennett for fifth.  With 12 laps complete Matthews was in command and pulling away from Bloxsom in second.  Anglace and Vogt were side by side for third.  The caution flag was displayed one lap later for a multi-car accident in turn 1 involving the cars of Cassandra Cole, Norm Sears, Aiden D’Agata, Zach Aszklar, and Sophya Papp.

Matthews maintained the race lead on the restart while Bloxsom was glued to his back bumper in second.  Vogt was third in line with Anglace back to fourth and Hovey fifth.  Bloxsom made one last bid for the lead on the final lap by giving Matthews a tap to the bumper but he wasn’t able to get by as Matthews scored his first win of the 2025 season.  Vogt initially finished third but his car didn’t meet minimum ride height requirements in post-race inspection and he was disqualified from the race.  This moved Anglace to third with Hovey and Bennett rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, RJ Surdell took the early lead with Gary Patnode right behind him in second.  Kevin Cormier was third in line with Rich Hammann fourth and Kyle Theriault fifth.  With 5 laps complete it was still Surdell out front with Patnode, Cormier, Hammann behind him with Matt Clement now up to fifth place.

Hammann was all over Cormier looking to take over third place, but Cormier was able to keep Hammann behind him.  Hammann was able to finally make a move on lap-11 to move into third behind Surdell and Patnode with Clement still running in fifth place.

With 5 laps to go, Surdell was still in control with Patnode, Hammann, Cormier, Clement, Travis Hydar, Jason Lafayette, Adrien Paradis, III, Theriault, and Jeremy Lavoie all giving chase.  The caution flew with 19 laps complete as both Patnode and Theriault ended up spun in the turn 1 wall and set up a green white checkered finish.

The restart saw Cormier nearly go 3-wide with Surdell and Hammann into turn 3 with Surdell emerging in the lead and Cormier and Hammann locked in a duel for second.  Surdell led everyone to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2025 season.  Cormier nipped Hammann by a nose at the line for second with Clement and Hydar rounding out the top-5.

In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Bill Cote took the lead at the start with Sean Petlock in second.  Brandon Warren was third in line with Travis Downey fourth and Tyler Trott and Aaron Plemons fighting door to door for fifth.  Trott took that spot on lap-3 with Plemons fading back to seventh place behind Bert Ouellette.

Warren took second from Petlock on lap-4 with Downey taking third, Trott fourth and Ouellette fifth as Petlock fell back to ninth place.  Downey got loose coming out of turn 2 on lap-6 and he slipped back to sixth place, which moved Ouellette to fourth and Plemons to fifth while Cote continued to lead.  Isabella Minchella spun in the middle of turns 1+2 to bring the caution flag out with 11 laps complete.

Cote took the lead on the restart with Trott taking second.  Plemons was up to third with Brent Gleason fourth and Warren and Jeff Asselin side by side for fifth.  The caution came back out with 14 laps complete for a spin in turn 2 by Steven Brown.

Cote and Trott went wheel to wheel for the lead on the restart with Trott taking the lead at the line by a nose.  Trott cleared Cote for the lead on lap-16 just before Cote spun in turn 4 as did Minchella and Pete Cayer to bring the caution flag out.

The restart saw Ouellette go 3-wide with Trott and Plemons to go from third to the lead.  Trott settled into second with Plemons third, Warren fourth, Gleason fifth, and Asselin sixth.  Ouellette led the field to the checkered flag for his second win in three starts this season.  Plemons took second with Trott, Warren, and Asselin rounding out the top-5.

The Kids Big Wheel winners were Memphis Genereux from Three Rivers, MA and Evan DaRos from Stafford Springs.
