(Tioga Center, NY 5-15-25) The wait is nearly over and for the first time in a decade racing will be taking place at Shangri-La II Speedway in Tioga Center, NY which will be hosting stock car racing on Saturday afternoon, May 17. This is the first race here since October 2014.

Pennsylvania businessman Jason Makarewicz, who has taken on a one-year lease agreement to run the track, has put in countless hours of the work to revive the ½-mile banked concrete oval located in Tioga Center, NY and he is optimistic that the fruits of his labor will be well-received by fans and race teams.

“This has been a labor of love in bringing this amazing race track back to life and we’re really excited and looking forward to a great day of racing on Saturday,” said Makarewicz.

“We have put a lot of time and work into all this and I want to be honest when I say there is still more that needs to be addressed and some people may see that when they arrive but the majority of what was most necessary to get done in order to conduct the races is good to go.”

Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, 4-Cylinder Stocks and Hobby Stocks are on the docket.

Makarewicz also noted that he is aware of the weather situation for Saturday and is monitoring that closely. As of now everything remains as scheduled with pits opening at 10:30 am, warmups at 12:30 pm and racing commencing at 2:00 pm.

The good news is that in the event of rain on Saturday, the show will then move to Sunday, May 18 with the same schedule in place.

“The weather has been the biggest hurdle with rain holding us back at times to get work done. And we know what the weekend forecast looks like, and we will keep everyone informed as things progress, but on a good note that was the reason we put in Sunday rain dates for four of our five scheduled shows,” noted Makarewicz.

“The same goes for tomorrow, (Friday). We plan to open for practice starting at noon and well stay as long as we have to beyond the 5:00 pm time we had originally had in place. We’ll have updates on our Facebook and web pages and encourage everyone to check regularly there.”

Friday’s practice starts at noon and will run as long as teams need or until dusk. Pit admission for open practice is $25 per person and grandstands are free.

Saturday pit admission is $40, all ages. Adult grandstand admission is $15, kids 12 and under are free.

There is an open tire rule for the Sportsman Modifieds and Super Stocks. Hoosier 10-inch tires ST1, ST2 and F45 Hoosier’s will be available at the track if needed.

Drivers are reminded to have radios for one-way communication with the race control. The frequency is 467 550.

Also, camping is allowed but please note there are no hook-ups.

Master K’s BBQ of Elmira, NY will be providing concessions for the day. They will have two of their food trucks on hand, one for the grandstand area and another in the pits.
