Riverhead, NY June 15th

Prior to the Miller Lite Salutes Steve Park 200 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event won by Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, four Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series events were contested at Riverhead Raceway Sunday afternoon. Among the highlights were second generation racer Frank Dumicich Jr. of East Quogue collecting a milestone 15th career victory in the 20-lap Super Pro Truck feature.
Starting from the outside pole Frank Dumicich Jr. moved his truck to the early race lead at the throw of the green with Charles Sudano in tow. On lap 2 caution waved when Sean Glennon slowed with a flat left rear tire forcing him to pit. During the caution, race control deemed Glennon’s championship rival Jack Handley Jr. played a role in the incident moving him to the rear with Glennon for the restart. When the race resumed so did Dumicich as the race leader while a familiar face moved to second on the restart with sister Erin Solomito becoming Frank’s challenger. For the remainder of the race brother and sister went toe-to-toe with Erin attempting to set Frank up for a crossover maneuver exiting the turns. Realizing the move was coming, Dumicich would back up his corners just enough to break momentum Erin had built up trying to gain a run for the lead. When the dust settled Frank in his Okpetroleummarketplace.com Toyota enjoyed his 15th career trip to victory lane breaking a tie with Dave Brigati for 7th on the all-time win list. Erin Solomito of East Quogue had to be content with runner-up honors in her Hydrant Hotel RAM, surrendering family bragging right to her brother for the time being. Sean Glennon of Northport out on a show wheeling his Glennon Construction Chevy back to third at the checker with rival Jack Handley Jr of Medford doing the same for fourth in the East Side Building Toyota. “Dangerous” Dave Koenig of Baldwin completed the top five with his National Metal Industries team.
For the second time in three weeks the Street Stocks had a race moved from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon due to weather, both times Brandon Hubbard of Mastic would come home the winner. Over the first half of the 20-lap contest all-time leading Street Stock winner Dave Antos of Lindenhurst paced the race hoping to complete a comeback after having to sit out all of 2024 due to a non-racing related injury. Danny Pizzo chased Antos at first but spun off track moving John Harley to second. Harley’s stay in second lasted until lap 6 when he got shuffled out of the groove with Hubbard, who started 8th sliding under Harley for second. Antos had a comfortable enough of a lead a 16th career win seemed to be in order, but then misfortune struck. Just prior to taking the halfway signal Antos suddenly veered to the infield moving Brandon Hubbard in his Top Twenty Motorsports Chevy the race lead and his second Sunday afternoon win in two weeks. Brian Brown of Calverton would steer the Eastport Feeds entry to second place money while Jarrod Hayes of Calverton, who surrendered Mets baseball tickets to compete came home third in the North Fork Sanitation Chevy. Jarrod was better off racing with the Mets being swept by the Tampa Rays.
Former Mini Stock champion Joe Cooke Jr. of Shirley blew the dust off his machine competing for the first time in 2025 as he concentrates on his rookie campaign with the INEX legend Race Cars. Cooke and his Buckley’s Irish Pub Honda didn’t lose their touch as he won his fourth career race in a 20-lap affair moving him into a tie with Bryan Kelly for 7th on the Mini Stock win list. Fourth generation racer Marissa Stewart showed the way for the first two circuits before Cooke made an inside pass for the lead. Stewart quickly found herself in a fight for second with veteran CJ Zukowski, a duel that pitted them side-by-side for several laps which allowed Cooke to slip away. Zukowski moved by Stewart off turn four on lap 12 with an inside pass but by the time he got to second Cooke was long gone in the non-stop race. CJ Zukowski of Riverhead was second in the Walls of Fame Cavalier, opening day winner Chris Olivari of Coram completed the podium in his Middle Country Automotive entry.
Score Sal Accardi of Deer Park two-for-2025 with the Eddie Partridge Vintage All Stars as he collected his second 15-lap win Sunday. The Saturday rain out and move to Sunday affected this class more than others Sunday but Accardi in his A-Plus Auto Salvage Cavalier turned back the clock with his winning performance in the former “Tiger” Tom Baldwin machine. Tom Pickerell of Huntington in the Kevin Bacik owned Cavalier and Sean Glennon of Northport in the coupe of Frank Saladino chased Accardi.
