NEW EGYPT, NJ – Much Needed.
On a night when he – along with six others – were inducted as the first New Egypt Speedway Hall of Fame Class, Ryan Godown raced to his first Modified win at the Central Jersey oval since the points opener on May 3.
Godown joined Billy Pauch Sr., Kenny Brightbill, Keith Hoffman, Jimmy Horton, Rocco Infante, and Billy Liedtka to be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Training Tails night at the speedway.
Coming from the 12th starting position, the Ringoes, N.J. native took advantage of multiple early race caution flags to climb his way forward.
Godown worked his way into the third position by the competition of lap four. Another yellow just one lap later set up a restart Godown wouldn’t waste.
He and Otisville, N.Y.’s Corey Cormier split then leader Frank Venezia to battle for the top spot side-by-side. Godown, with the inside line, outgunned Cormier for the lead and led the final 25 laps for the victory.
Schnecksville, Pa.’s Tanner Van Doren put on another strong performance, coming from the 11th starting position to come home in the runner-up spot.
Van Doren took second away from Cormier on lap 16, and at points appeared to be reeling in leader Godown but was unable to maintain the pace the 26 was setting.
Van Doren held off Danny Bouc, however, to maintain the runner-up finish, matching his best finish of the season.
Bouc maintained his hold on the championship lead with the third-place finish after starting in the 14th spot.
Cormier claimed fourth, his best finish of the year, and Hopewell, N.J.’s rounded out the top five. He and Cormier both shook off rough starts to the season to each grab a top five.
Finishing sixth through tenth, respectively, were Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr.; Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle; Jackson, N.J.’s Kevin Borden; Upper Black Eddy, Pa.’s Jim Housworth; and Hamilton, N.J.’s Johnny Bangs.
In Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman, South Plainfield, N.J.’s Matt Ellery used a mid-race restart to slip by Ryan Simmons and take the victory.
Ellery, who came from the eighth starting position, raced his way into the runner-up spot on lap 13, and began chasing Simmons for the top spot.
When the yellow came out on lap 17, Simmons chose the outside groove. Ellery took advantage of the opportunity, racing underneath Simmons at the exit of turn two and taking a lead, he would not relinquish.
Ellery became the fifth different winner in six races with the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman this season.
Simmons settled for the runner-up spot with Ethan Bill, Mike Butler, and Ryan Heim completing the top five.
In Fastline Performance Rookie action, Aiden Spencer and Hunter Ploski once again split the feature wins. The pair both agreed to be co-champions of the division rather than add one more to settle it amongst each other.
In Four Cylinder action, Dale Mull claimed his first win of the season after starting in seventh. Mull crossed the line on the opening lap in 11th.
He picked his way forward, including going from seventh to second on lap 10 and then grabbed the lead one lap later to take the victory.
Joe Garey, Robert Drayton IV, Penny Dunn, and Kyle Hurley completed the top five.
