WALL, NJ ~ On an evening at Wall Stadium Speedway when support divisions took center stage, Kevin Davison and Steve Whitt, both of Howell raced to 25 lap Sportsman stock car main event wins. For Davison, a five time driving champion, it was his first win of the campaign while Whitt’s victory was his first after a several season layoff.
The first Sportsman main event, which suffered several cautions, saw Lavallette’s Quinn Trimmer lead the early going as Davison picked his way through the field. Davison arrived in second on lap 11 and sized up his foe before taking the lead near the halfway point with an outside lane pass. Davison then survived several restarts before racing home for the win.
Chris Silvestri of Hazlet was second at the stripe, while Rahway’s Billy Both,Trimmer and Howell’s James Blewett wrapped up the top five.
In the second Sportsman feature, which was tarnished by just a few cautions, Whitt jumped to the lead at the outset and fought off early challenges by Wall’s Tyler Ferris. Tyler Truex of Mayetta then advanced to second a few laps before the half way point and chased Whitt to the finish line. Truex was second, while Blewett was third and Brick’s Robert Sutphin, who tagged the guard rail at the finish, was fourth. Ferris was fifth.
Jackson’s Ian Ashford was impressive racing through the pack before taking the lead at half way in the 50 lap race for the fast four cars. Alonzo Morales of Burlington was the runner-up, with Wall’s TJ Graves, Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, NY and Jackson’s Doug Ashford wrapping up the top five.
Anthony Marsh of Riverhead, NY broke a four race win streak of runner-up Mike Alcaro by fighting off the West Milford speedster’s constant challenges to the finish. Jayden Glennerster, Tanner Jones and Justin Emmons were third through fifth.
Brian Doyleof Medford, NY. grabbed the lead on lap 10 and then topped the 25 lapper for the Limited Late Models. Ray Minieri raced home second, while early race leaders Greg Gastelu and Pat Brown were third and fourth. Phil Bogdan was fifth.
