EVANS MILLS, NY – On a night honoring track friend Nicole Berry-Garnsey, race winners and fans from the crowd would compete against each other and Crash Test Carter in a series of physical fitness and health related games presented by FERRIS Commercial Mowers and Tug Edge Outdoor & More. These games were designed to promote Nicole’s spirit and professional work to help improve her community’s health & wellness.

We were proud to welcome in students and families from the Carthage Central School District who would start the evening with a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner performed by Carthage student Harmony Malewich.

Tug Edge Outdoor & More in Adams has been EMRP’s trusted source for grass cutting machines, as we have used a FERRIS commercial mower to freshen up the facility each Thursday before our race weekends.

Generous donations from the Berry family including Nicole’s parents Don and Brenda, helped warm up the crowd to the events ahead. Children nine and under entering the races were given a raffle ticket for a chance to win a free bicycle donated by race teams. Attendees were also greeted with a complimentary apple. The night would see flying apples, bananas, and oranges launched into the screaming crowd, while the concession stand would offer fresh cups of fruit promoting healthy living.

Eighteen brand new bicycles would be raffled off with autographed photos and racing merchandise to match. The race teams that donated bicycles include Greenfield and Austin Family Racing, Briggs Racing, Clark Racing, Pettinelli Racing, Goodale Racing, Bush Racing, Hall Racing, Pringle Racing, Hart Racing, Roggie Racing, and Jay and Phyllis Gascon.

After Malewich’s anthem performance. Crash Test Carter and Eric would request the crowd’s loudness for some human bowling. Crash Test Carter would snuggle into his matching yellow shopping cart and grab hold of a rope tied to the FERRIS zero-turn mower positioned in front of him, ready to pull Carter at speed towards six “pins” each representing a health-related item ready to be tossed to eager fans. Carter would take a practice pull, so he says, completely missing the pins. He would pick up three pins on the next pull, and complete the spare in the next run sending sun screen, tooth paste, tooth brushes, oranges, FERRIS hats, soap, and granola bars into the grandstands.

The midway was filled with local organizations that believe in promoting healthy living and enjoying life. Participating organizations also offered prizes to raffle off like baked goods and hard cover book series. We’re thankful for those who joined us; Samaritan Medical Center, Evans Mills Public Library, Sam’s Club, American Red Cross, Relay for Life, Clayton Dental/Better Sleep NNY, and the Watertown Wolves and Rapids.

The Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour would start the racing action with their second and final visit to the Raceway with a larger car count. Ron Schadt, a feature winner hopeful, would incur damage in a heat race and sit out the feature. Aaron Pugh and Mark Barker would put on a great racing send cars sideways through the asphalt banking much higher than a typical Saturday driving line.

Evans Mills native Mark Barker would pick up the feature win as series sponsor Sheepy Hollow Honey and Farm, and owner Jason Rarick would prepare on the front stretch to raffle off his 2019 Teo Chassis to one of the DMNT drivers in attendance this night. Anna Berry, Nicole’s niece and former flag-man Brady Berry’s daughter would pull Aaron Pugh’s name out of the draw, sending the second-place finisher home with an astonishing consolation prize.

Following the race, Tim would choose his car owner James Austin to be his teammate in a relay race around the Evans Mills Kartway against Crash Test Carter and fan. Tim would show off his wheels and make an outside to inside crossover through turns one and two to take the lead into the hand off. After the hand off Carter and Austin would beat, bang, and brake check each other. Austin would take a short cut around the track to cross the Thousand Island Bait Store Start Fishin’ line first only to be disqualified for short cut awarding the lucky fan a Dick’s Sporting Goods Gift card donated by the Berry family in honor of Nicole Berry-Garnsey.
