SPIN TO WIN: GODOWN COMES BACK FROM LAP FIVE TANGLE FOR FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON, 200TH OF CAREER

NEW EGYPT, NJ – Spin to Win.

For the fourth time this season, Ryan Godown went to New Egypt Speedway Victory Lane. This one might’ve been the hardest, and the most rewarding.

The win was the 200th win of Godown’s career across all divisions.

“It’s pretty crazy to think about when you remember being a little kid in the stands at Flemington Speedway,” Godown smiled. “I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of sponsors, car owners, and crew to help me get to this point.

“I don’t know if I’ll see 300, I’m getting old,” he laughed.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Godown in the 30-lap main event, as a lap five, multi-car tangle, involved the Ringoes, N.J. native shuffling him back to the 16th position on the ensuing restart.

From there, Godown slowly began making his way back to the front. He rose to the 12th spot on lap 13, then to 11th at the halfway mark.

Godown made a big leap on lap 17, moving from 10th up to sixth and from there, a shot at a win became realistic.

While Godown was charging to the front, the lead was changing several hands between guys looking for their first win of the season, or Modified career.

Somerset, N.J.’s Will Dupree and New Egypt, N.J.’s Joseph Brown paced the field in the early going, before Hamilton, N.J. native Johnny Bangs took the lead on lap five after multiple early yellows.

Bangs, powered by a CT525 engine, appeared on his way to career win No. one, dominating the middle portion of the race. Unfortunately for Bangs, a broken part in the front end took the handling away on the No. 323, causing Bangs to relinquish the lead to Jim Housworth.

The Upper Black Eddy, Pa. native took the top spot with 10 laps remaining and began to set sail.

Shortly after Housworth got to the lead, Godown had moved into the runner-up spot and Pipersville, Pa.’s Danny Bouc moved into third.

Neither appeared to be gaining on Housworth, however, before the races final caution flag flew with four laps remaining.

The restart gave Godown the opportunity he needed, racing underneath Housworth when the race resumed, snatching the lead away and ultimately the win.

Bouc also slipped by Housworth, finishing in the runner-up spot. The finish means that Godown and Bouc will enter championship night just two points apart for the 2025 title.

Housworth held on to the final podium spot, with Bangs, and Montgomery, N.J.’s Justin Grosso completing the top five.

Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were East Greenbush, N.Y.’s David Schilling; Sayreville, N.J.’s Dominick Buffalino; Joseph Brown; Montgomery, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso; and Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr. who was involved in the races lone red flag. The finish likely eliminates Pauch’s chances at the championship.

In Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman competition, Pilesgrove Township, N.J.’s Ethan Bill earned redemption from last week’s disappointment.

After losing the Mr. Crate Classic after coming up six pounds short on the scale, Bill responded with another dominant drive.

Bill led the final 13 laps of the 25-lap main event to pick up the victory after getting by Dan Fleming for the top spot.

Ryan Heim, Mike Butler, Matt Ellery, and Ryan Simmons completed the top five.

Southampton, N.J.’s Bobby Drayton III, much like Ethan Bill, used a dominant drive to pick up the Four Cylinder victory.

Drayton lapped all but the top three on his way to the victory.

Kyle Hurley, Joe Garey Jr., Jim Avery, and Penny Dunn completed the top five.

Racing continues next Saturday, August 30 for Championship Night. The Modifieds will headline the affair with two points separating the top two in points. The Swagger Factory Apparel Crate Sportsman, Northeast Wingless Sprints, Xtreme Diesel Performance, LLC. Street Stocks, and Four Cylinders will all be on hand to crown 2025 champions.

The entire event can be streamed LIVE on the New Egypt Speedway YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/@NewEgyptSpeedway).
