It was the Danny Serrano Memorial Weekend at the Bridgeport Motorsports Park as the track celebrated the life of the former Race Director and friend to many racers. There were many Danny stories told and retold over the weekend.
Demers Heating and Cooling was onboard as the weekend sponsor and loving every minute of it!
This was a race that Neal Williams really wanted to win. “I’ve wanted to win this race for a long time,” Williams stated. “Danny was very important to me.” Williams credits Serrano with helping him move into the Modified ranks.
Danny Bouc and Stan Frankenfield, Jr. led the field of the Danny’s Pizza Pizzazz Modifieds to the green flag with Bouc grabbing the early race lead. Williams quickly moved into second and set his sights on the race leader.
Bouc led the first twenty laps of the race. Williams watched the line that the leader was racing and knew that he would be moving around, searching for a good line. When Bouc moved his line, Williams was ready. Williams was afraid that he might have followed him for too long. He made his move on lap twenty-one. A slide job in turn three and the race had a new leader.
Billy Osmun III took over second on the next restart, just one lap after Williams took the lead.
Williams led the field to the crossed flags and picked up the $500 bonus from DeMers as the leader at halfway. Osmun, Bouc, HJ Bunting and Cale Ross trailed the leader at halfway.
Ryan Godown raced in sixth and worked on Ross to advance his position. On lap thirty-seven, the two drivers made contact after racing hard for the position. Godown spun in turn two and Ross headed to the pits to change a flat tire. They both returned to restart at the back of the field.
Sammy Martz, Jr. was on the move, taking over fifth and looking for more.
Osmun challenged for the lead on a restart on lap fifty-one but Williams crossed him over to maintain the lead.
Williams raced to the win, becoming the sixth different driver to win this event. Osmun finished second and made his grandfather very proud. The elder Osmun attended his first race of the year and got to see his grandson deliver a great race. (And by the way – the years have been kind to Billy Osmun!) Billy Osmun III has a number of second place finishes that he is so ready to trade in on a win!
Danny Bouc finished third followed by Sammy Martz, Jr. and Luke Bunting. Dillon Steuer, the winner of last year’s event, finished sixth followed by Stan Frankenfield, Brian Papiez, Cale Ross and Ryan Godown.
Williams was not at all happy with his ride the night before. Changes were made and Williams had a race car for the distance. Although he did run the distance without brakes!
The Ice Less 602 Sportsman raced in a thirty-five lap Bruce Ward Memorial feature. Ward played an important role in many of the area drivers racing careers.
Rookie, PJ Bozowski was the early race leader but Steve Kemery was on the move, challenging for the lead on lap three. Kemery led the way over Matt Peck until lap eight when an apparent drive line problem had him come to a stop between turns three and four.
Peck became the new race leader on the restart followed by Luke Bunting, Bozowski, Adriana Delliponte and Matt Ellery.
Delliponte was going forward and looking for more. While Peck raced through lapped traffic, Delliponte gained positions. She closed in on Bunting and then took over second with about ten laps to go.
Peck raced to the win and the $500 halfway bonus from DeMers Heating and Cooling. It was Peck’s fourth win of the season in the Danny Sommerling No. 51. Delliponte finished second in her only Bridgeport start of the season. Bunting, Ellery and Steve Davis rounded out the top five. Ryan Anderson finished sixth followed by Jesse Hirthler, Jax Yohn, Jim Wyers and Jordan Henn.
The Victory Fuel Wingless Sprints had their second race of the weekend and it was almost an instant replay of the night before as JR Fulper raced to his second win of the weekend – doubling his win total of the season. 2025 Track Champion, Thomas Radivoy finished second followed by Jonathan Swanson, Rich Mellor and Stan Ploski III.
Fulper has progressed throughout his first season in an open wheel car.
Defending Track Champion, Nick Sandone III raced to his first win of the season in the Insta Signs Plus Street Stocks after a race long battle with Gary Bozowski. A flat tire took Bozowski out of the run for the win in what was a wild night for this division.
Sandone took the win over Spider Ensinger, Jr., Scott Freed, Mike Baldwin and Bozowski in fifth.
Joe Garey, Jr. led only the final lap in the Insta Signs Plus Four Cylinder feature to capture the win. Backowski finished second and then crashed in turns one and two after the checkered. Joe Garey, Sr. finished third followed by Roger Kummerer and Kelly Fleming.
