— Wins second in a row with the Race of Champions Modified series —
LANCASTER, N.Y. (July 2, 2026) — Lancaster Motorplex saw both high temperatures and high-paced action on Thursday, as the Race of Champions Modifieds rolled into town.
18 Modifieds took part in the Ol’ Boy Cup X — a 60-lap race presented by Thermal Foams, Inc., to honor Billy Colton, Sr.
Jayden Harman led the field to green, but Jake Lutz was right there. But before Lutz could make a move, Paulie Hartwig III shot up from fourth to take over the lead as they came down the front stretch.
Hartwig did not face any challenges for the duration of the race, even when he caught up to lapped traffic on Lap 16. No-one was able to touch the Galloway, N.J., driver who was able to secure his second RoC Modified series race; his first came just last Saturday, June 27, at Evans Mills Raceway Park.
“[My competitors] were on their game today,” said Hartwig in Victory Lane. “But ever since we built this car, it’s been on fire. [It feels] great to win here again.”
Hartwig also admitted to having a little bit of fear while being interviewed.
“[I] started fourth and we had a really fast car,” said Hartwig. “[But] I was getting a little scared with the lap cars, but I just bid my time.”
Rounding out the top three were
● Jake Lutz — Hamburg, NY
● Mike Leaty — Williamson, NY
The Race of Champions flies into Spencer Speedway next Friday, July 10, for Fan Appreciation Night with the RoC “Family of Series.” Pits open at 4 p.m., Gates and Hot Laps both begin at 5:50, and the racing action gets underway at 7:15.
