ADDISON MEITZLER RIDES THE RIM TO THE FRONT, TAKES LEAD WITH TWO-TO-GO TO SCORE THRILLING NASCAR SPORTSMAN FEATURE WIN
LARRY ECK CAPTURES KEYSTONE SPORT COMPACT SERIES VICTORY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa., Addison Meitzler of Kempton, Pa. and Larry Eck of Lehighton, Pa. were all feature winners on another highly competitive night of NASCAR stock racing presented by A.D. Moyer Lumber Company Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
Von Dohren, firing off from tenth in the 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Modified feature, arrived in second spot by lap seven, then hooked up in a fierce twelve lap battle for the lead with Bobby Trapper Jr. of Scranton, Pa. before securing the lead on lap twenty, then survived a late race restart to charge home with his third victory of the season.
Von Dohren was racing with a heavy heart following the passing of his father, stating he knew his Dad would have wanted him to race.
Meitzler started fourteenth in the 25-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Sportsman main event and after avoiding three early race skirmishes, put on a driving clinic, racing around the extreme outside lane of the Speedway picking off position after position to reach second by lap sixteen, then tracked down race leader Kyle Hartzell of Bethlehem, Pa., engaged in a crowd pleasing duel for the lead, taking command coming to the white flag, then raced home to his second win of the season.
The Keystone Sport Compact Series, presented by Cutting Edge Property Services, saw Larry Eck take the lead on lap ten from Brian Moyer of Reading, Pa., then charged home the final laps to score the feature win in the division’s 25-lap feature race.
The winners received bonus money (Modified $300, Sportsman $200) from T.P. Trailers and Truck Equipment of Limerick, Pa., sponsors of the two divisions at Grandview Speedway in a race program run under the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts banner.
The 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Modified feature saw Bobby Trapper Jr. jump out to the early lead, while Chris Esposito of Telford, Pa. Kenny Bock of Oley, Pa., Cody Manmiller of Philadelphia, Pa., Bobby Trapper Sr. of Scranton, Pa. and Justin Grim of Orefield, Pa. were all battling for positions behind him.
Von Dohren was quickly slicing his way through the field, reaching the top five by lap six, then a lap later would reach second position, and quickly engaged in a battle for the lead with Trapper Jr. starting on lap eight.
Meanwhile Mike Gular of Harleysville, Pa. would be marching forward, reaching the top five by lap eight, then engaged in a hard fought battle with Esposito and Grim for the top five positions, picking up third spot on lap thirteen.
Trapper Jr. would maintain the lead under intense pressure from Von Dohren, who would stick his nose under Trapper Jr. numerous times in the crowd pleasing fight for the win.
The two leaders would reach lapped traffic on lap eighteen, which really intensified the battle for the top spot, while Duane Howard of Oley, Pa. and Jared Umbenhauer of Richland, Pa. would join the action for the top five positions.
Von Dohren continued to pressure Trapper Jr., throwing everything he could at the leader, who was running an outstanding race in the high lane, several times moving alongside Trapper Jr., only to see Trapper Jr. continue to remain in the lead.
While in lapped traffic, Von Dohren finally got the chance he needed, making a low groove pass exiting turn two on lap twenty to secure the top spot after a spectacular battle for the lead.
Now in the lead, Von Dohren was about to contend with a huge pack of cars ahead of him in lapped traffic, only to see a caution wave on lap twenty-five after a nineteen lap run of green flag racing.
Following the restart, VonDohren pulled out to a safe lead, with Umbenhauer gaining two positions to advance to second, and tried to track down Von Dohren in the final laps.
Von Dohren would not be denied, racing home to a hard fought feature win, his third of the season, and the 129th of his career in Saturday night NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts competition, and overall (counting Thunder on the Hill wins), the 142nd of his Grandview Speedway career.
Following Von Dohren to the finish line were Jared Umbenhauer, Mike Gular, a late charging Logan Watt of Boyertown, Pa., Bobby Trapper Jr., Duane Howard, Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa., Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa., Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y. and Justin Grim.
Qualifying heats for the 44 cars on hand were won by Bobby Trapper Jr., Bobby Trapper Sr., Justin Grim and Kenny Bock, while Eddie Strada of Lake Ariel, Pa. and Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa. won the consolations.
The 25-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Sportsman feature got off to a wild start, with three cautions before a lap could be completed, with Taylor Kramer of Coopersburg, Pa. taking the early lead.
Kyle Hartzell, Gavyn Krupp of Barto, Pa., Colton Perry of Topton, Pa., Joey Vaccaro of Reading, Pa. and Brett Gilmore of Kutztown, Pa. would all start battling for the top positions once things settled down.
A three car battle quickly developed for the lead, with Kramer setting the pace under pressure from Hartzell and Krupp, who would grab second on lap nine and really challenge Kramer for the lead.
The two drivers would run close and hard in the fight for the lead, however the two made contact in turn four on lap ten, with Kramer spinning with a broken front end and Krupp being penalized by the track officials, ending both drivers’ great runs in an attempt for the feature win.
Hartzell would take over the lead after the leaders tangled, being chased by Perry, Gilmore, Vaccaro and a rim riding Addison Meitzler, who was charging toward the front in the outside lane of the speedway in thrilling fashion.
Meitzler, who started fourteenth, would reach fifth by lap eleven, and slowly worked the outside lane to second by lap sixteen, setting up his chase after leader Hartzell.
Following a lap fifteen caution, Hartzell and Meitzler pulled away from the pack to begin their fight for the lead, while Perry, a quickly advancing Colin Cox of Perkasie, Pa., Vaccaro and last week’s winner Matthew Laubach of Quakertown, Pa. were all fighting for the top spots.
Meitzler tried everything he could in the late stages to get by Hartzell, who was having his best run of the season, finally finding an opening in the low groove on lap twenty two.
The two drivers raced side-by-side for over half a lap, before Meitzler was able to forge ahead down the back straight away coming around for the white flag, he then pulled away in the final lap to score the exciting feature win, his second of the season and seventh career Saturday night NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts feature win.
At the checkered, it was Meitzler, Hartzell for his best outing of the year, Colin Cox who advanced from fifteenth starting spot, Colton Perry for his best run of the year, Matthew Laubach, Joey Vaccaro, Brett Gilmore, Mike Toth of Hellertown, Pa., Bryce Bashore of Bethel, Pa. and Brad Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa.
Qualifying heats for the 38 cars on hand were won by Paul Houseknecht of East Greenville, Pa., Colton Perry, Jimmy Leiby of Boyertown, Pa. and Kyle Hartzell while Brett Grim of Coplay, Pa. and Joe Toth of Upper Makefield, Pa. won the consolations.
The Keystone Sport Compact Series four cylinder 25-lap feature saw Brian Moyer take the early lead, only to see Kelly Frantz of New Tripoli, Pa. take the top spot briefly, before Moyer would surge back to the lead.
Larry Eck, who started fifth, would then grab the lead on a lap ten restart, and march home to the feature win over Brian Moyer, Vinny Wollyung of Lenhartsville, Pa., Russ Hilbert of Mertztown, Pa. and Kelly Frantz.
Heat winners for the Four Cylinders were Larry Eck and Russ Hilbert for the 18 cars pit side.
Grandview Speedway will be presenting another NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts program next week featuring the T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment NASCAR Modifieds and Sportsman.
The show on Saturday, September 5 will include qualifying events for both classes leading into a 30-lap T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Modified feature and a 25-lap feature for the T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Sportsman.
Track management is reminding everyone that for the Saturday night races in the month of September, the starting times will move up one half hour.
Pit gates will open at 3:30 pm, with grandstand gates opening at 5 pm, warm-ups starting at 5:45 pm, and the first race of the evening getting the green flag at 7 pm.
Adult grandstand admission is $20, students 10-15 with ID are $10, while children ages 9 and under are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $35 for NASCAR members and $45 for non-members.
The final night of points racing and the crowning of the 2026 track champions will occur on Championship Night on Saturday, September 12, in a race program featuring the T.P. Trailers & Truck Equipment Modifieds and Sportsman joined by the Outlaw Racing Series Vintage cars starting at 7 pm.
