POINTS FROM INVERTED EVENTS ON THURSDAY & FRIDAY SET SATURDAY’S $126,000-TO-WIN FINALE
ALGER, WASH. (September 2, 2026) – Following a successful week at the 72nd Mike Curb Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by NOS Energy Drink, the Angel of the Winds Skagit Nationals will operate with essentially the same event format at Washington’s Skagit Speedway this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 3-4-5.
With Friday’s event now tabbed as the Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race and paying $26,000-to-win, $2,000-to-start, drivers will pill draw on BOTH Thursday and Friday – the only difference from the Gold Cup format which saw pill draw reversed.
The basis of Thursday and Friday’s program includes one group of Qualifying, four Heat Races inverted by six-cars with five transfers available, and the A-Main lined up by points with another inversion of eight-cars thrown in. Once Friday is complete, the combined points from both days will be tallied with four drivers locking-in for the $126,000-to-win finale and the rest of the field lining up in Qualifiers.
As always with Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing, all full-field events will count for championship points – meaning the standard two series provisionals will be available each night, but only award series points and NOT event points.
A full breakdown of the format used this week can be found below…
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3-4
- All cars qualify in one group – drivers will pill draw both nights
- Qualifying points awarded: 100 for QuickTime down by 1. 2nd-99, 3rd-98, etc.
- 4 Heat Races lined up with an invert of 6 cars each (24 total from Qualifying)
- From Heats: 1st-5th to A-Main; rest to B-Main
- Points for Heat Races start at 100, down by 2. 2nd-98, 3rd-96, etc.
- The A-Main is lined up by points among Heat transfers with the top 8 inverted
- The B-Main includes Heat finishers 6th-10th lined straight up by finish with the front row reserved for the fastest two in Qualifying times not in A-Main
- Top 4 transfer from the B-Main and start in rows 11-12 of the A-Main
- A-Main points: 1st is 200, down by 3. 2nd-197, 3rd-194, etc.
- B-Main points start at 120 for 5th and go down by 3
SKAGIT NATIONALS FINALE (Saturday, September 5)
- Top 4 in overall points after Thursday and Friday lock-in for Saturday’s Championship A-Main
- The rest of the field lines up in 4 Qualifiers straight up by overall points from Thursday-Friday
- Top 4 finishers from each Qualifier transfer directly to A-Main
- Redraw wheel will set lock-in drivers 1-4; Qualifier winners 5-8
- Positions 9-20 are straight up by Qualifier finish
- B-Main is lined up by Qualifier finishers 5th-9th with the two highest point totals that don’t transfer starting on the front row
- Top 4 transfer from the B-Main and start in rows 11-12 of the A-Main
*Preliminary night ties will be broken by Qualifying times. Any ties heading into Saturday’s finale will be broken by preliminary Feature finish
**The standard two series provisionals will be available each night, but only awards championship points and NOT event points
