GRANBY, QUEBEC – What a race!
Matt Sheppard won for the 62nd time in his Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco career and second time in a row with the series in 2026 Monday night at Autodrome Granby to kick off the Lumberjack Swing in Quebec.
The Savannah, N.Y., driver earned $10,000 for his efforts following the 60-lap event, Round No. 5 of the STSS Modified HYTORC of New York North Region.
Sheppard emerged from a thrilling battle with Michael Parent and Stewart Friesen before fending off a charging Chris Raabe for the triumph, extending his lead in the series standings.
Sheppard, who started third, led the final 35 laps of the event after clearing Parent in lapped traffic.
‘Super Matt’ now owns three STSS-sanctioned victories at Autodrome Granby, joining winning efforts at the half-mile oval in 2025 and ’23.
“We’re excited for this one,” Sheppard said. “The car just getting better and better – almost like a repeat of last year. What a great night for us.”
Raabe, of Alexandria, Ont., earned runner-up pay after starting eighth. Raabe pocketed $5,000 for his second-place finish.
Despite losing brakes late in the event, Saint Catharines, Ont.’s Mat Williamson guided Behrent’s Performance Warehouse-fielded No. 3 to the final podium position.
Parent, who started from the pole following the Beyea Custom Headers Redraw, finished fourth. The Granby, Quebec driver edged Anthony Perrego at the finish for the position. Walden, N.Y.’s Perrego completed the front five driving Bob Hentschel’s No. 4.
Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Felix Roy of Napierville, Quebec, who started 15th in the Team ONE entry; Sprakers, N.Y.’s Friesen, who faded to seventh after charging toward the lead; 14th-starter Alex Yankowski of Covington Township, Pa.; Sebastion Gougeon of Saint-Majorique, Quebec; and Alex Payne of Canandaigua, N.Y.
Perrego was the ATL Racing Fuel Cells Hot Lap Hero at 18.099 seconds.
Heat winners were Parent, Sheppard and Williamson. Elliot Gamache won the B-Main.
Thirty-four STSS Modifieds signed in for the event, postponed by rain from July.
Lake Ariel, Pa.’s Tyler Peet etched his name in history with a victory in the first-ever STSS Sportsman event run in the province of Quebec. Peet earned $1,500 in Round No. 6 of the STSS Sportsman Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region.
Peet, driving the Dakota Gajewski-owned No. 9G, swept to the lead with 13 laps remaining and survived a late restart and ensuing high-side challenge from Karl Letendre.
Jacob Nadeau of Saint-Aime-de-Massueville, Quebec, placed third followed by Normand Hamel, the Pierreville, Quebec, who started ninth and Raphael Gougeon of Saint-Marjorique, Quebec.
Nadeau was the JLR Technologies Hot Lap Hero at 19.428 seconds.
Heat winners were Samuel Fortier, Gougeon and Sean Imbeault. Manuel Piette topped the B-Main.
The STSS Sportsman Quebec debut drew 33 entries.
The ‘Lumberjack Swing’ rolls on Tuesday (Sept. 8) at Le RPM Speedway in Saint-Marcel-de-Richelieu, Quebec with another $10,000-to-win, 60-lap STSS Modified HYTORC of New York North Region event and a 30-lap, $1,500-to-win STSS Sportsman Madsen Overhead Doors North Region program.
