DELMAR, DE – One Wild Night.
On a night when everything seemed against the racing program, Carson Wright grabbed an upset victory with the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds on Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts Night at Delaware International Speedway.
Wright – who started 25th after breaking in his heat race – drove from last to first in just 11 laps and led the remaining 14 circuit’s to claim the $3,000 triumph.
“I’ve never had a racecar this good in my life,” Wright said through an unmistakable smile following his NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series win.
The 25-lap feature fought multiple yellow flags due to a persistent, but light, rain shower that hovered over the half-mile oval.
“Honestly the rain helped me a lot,” Wright explained. “It helped keep bite in the racetrack which was good for me running the outside.”
Wright used the extreme outside of the speedway to drive around everybody on his way to the front.
Wright had worked his way up to sixth, when a pileup occurred involving four of the top five, moving Wright up to the runner-up spot.
From there, Wright’s prowess on the outside of the speedway carried him to the lead and ultimately the victory.
Milford, Del.’s Joseph Watson spent a majority of the race in the runner-up spot, where he would cross the line at the finish. Belle Mead, N.J.’s Brandon Grosso rounded out the podium finishers.
Milford, Del.’s H.J. Bunting grabbed the fourth spot in the Blue Hen Racing No. 30 and Neshanic Station, N.J.’s Matt Stangle rounded out the top five after being involved in the pileup involving the top five.
Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Milford, Del.’s Jordan Watson was another driver involved in the front-runner pileup, rebounding for sixth; Millsboro, Del.’s Ryan Riddle came from 17th for seventh; Langhorne, Pa.’s Danny Hieber raced to an eighth place run; Belle Mead, N.J.’s Justin Grosso came home ninth and Birdsboro, Pa.’s John Willman rounded out the top-10.
The Rapid Tire Services USAC East Coast Sprint Cars invaded Delaware International Speedway for the first time of the season.
Allentown, Pa.’s Briggs Danner won a thrilling feature over Collegeville, Pa.’s Alex Bright for the victory.
Danner raced from seventh to take the lead, before holding off Bright in the waning laps to take the win in the Tim Hogue owned No. 39.
Alex Bright, Joey Amantea, Christian Bruno, and Kyle Spence rounded out the top five.
Laurel, Del.’s Jordn Justice took home his first win of the season in the Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman division.
Justice fired from the outside of the front row and led all 20 laps to take the victory.
Joe Toth, Adam White, Paulie Hartwig III, and Scott Hitchens rounded out the top five.
Seaford, Del.’s Trevor Collins was victorious in the RUSH Late Model feature, passing Matt Hill in the late stages to take home the victory.
Hill, Donald Lingo, Joe Warren, and Derek Magee rounded out the top five.
Jamie Eicholz (Modified) and Nathan Austin (Sportsman) won the Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Car feature over a healthy field of vintage cars.
Bunky White topped the 12-lap Little Lincoln affair over Melvin Joseph Jr. and Jordan Herbert.
Jerry Hill won his fourth consecutive Delaware Super Truck feature over T.J. Williams and Tony Guinta.
Jay Lowman dominated the Delmarva Charger feature event, besting Wyatt Cummings and Tyler Hottle to take the win.
Up next at Delaware International Speedway is a double header program headlined by the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds racing for a $3,000 top prize and the Stockley Speed & Supply Super Late Models racing for a $2,500 winner’s share.
