Gabe Brown Maintains Wall’s Ford Series Win Streak with NH Governor’s Cup Victory

N. Woodstock, NH — The pit area at White Mountain Motorsports Park filled to near capacity on Saturday night for the first-ever Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series event at the quarter-mile facility in North Woodstock, New Hampshire. The fans also came in droves to witness history, as well as the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 100, Round #2 in the Wall’s Ford Platinum Series for the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models!
After lightning-fast qualifying events for the four divisions present at White Mountain on Saturday night, the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis kicked-off feature racing action. The sparks flew early with Scott Senecal moving up a groove too early mid-pack with Jack Hayes ending up in the turn four tire barrier and Donnie Baumgardner suffering the same fate on lap two. Last year’s top rookie Patrick Switser led from the restart and took down the win over a hard-charging McKenna Merchant and a reinvigorated Todd Derrington on the podium.
The Wall’s Ford Platinum Series returned to New Hampshire’s Favorite Short track and with the twenty-six car field led to green by rookie Colin Cornell and nine-time track champion Quinny Welch. Welch would steal away the lead on the high groove on lap two with Gabe Brown and Kasey Beattie quickly giving chase behind him. The first caution for a collapsed left front assembly after heavy contact saw Jeremy Davis’s night end prematurely on lap 9. Welch would maintain the lead with Brown and Beattie getting increasingly hostile in the battle for second place.
With the youngsters hot on Welch’s heels, Brown used the lapped car of Joel Hodgdon to split underneath and take the lead on lap 47. One final caution on lap 60 for the flat right front of Justin Prescott’s ride re-racked the field for a final shot at chasing down Brown. The Wall’s Platinum Series point leader never gave way, taking his second Wall’s Ford Series event of the year to maintain his lead in the four-race series. Kasey Beattie and Quinny Welch would round out the podium in the final test and tune prior to next Saturday’s Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250.
With former 2024 winners Stephen Kopcik and Teddy Hodgdon leading the field to green, the Mighty Modifieds of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series took on the White Mountain highbanks in a Series first. Kopcik took the early lead with a rear-view mirror full of Woody Pitkat. ‘The Sultan of Stafford’ would be the first to take the shot down low, taking over the lead on lap 19 from Kopcik at the head of the pack.
Throughout the middle of the 100-lap event, it wasn’t the race to the front for Matt Hirschman, rather the race not to be lapped! Again and again race leader Woody Pitkat closed on Matt Hirschman with Hirschman motored inside and outside of slower cars to maintain a lead-lap position. ‘Big Money Matt’ would be saved with the first caution on lap 73 for the stalled Chris Pasteryak on the backstretch. Pitkat, Hirschman, Ronnie Williams and Kyle Bonsignore were among those who took advantage of the yellow flag to jump pit-side for tires and adjustments.
While Hirschman made it to the top-five under the return to green, his luck ran out with the #60 sliding through the infield to bring out the lap 82 caution. Jake ‘The Jet’ Johnson took command of the field and never faltered through the final restart for the lap 89 caution as Les Hinkley kissed the turn four tire barrier. Jake Johnson earned his first career Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series victory in the Series’ first trip to White Mountain Motorsports Park followed by Woody Pitkat and Steven Kopcik at the line.
The Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers wrapped up the night with Nate Hamblett and Luke Peters leading the field to green. Point leader Brandon Gray would make his way through traffic to claim the lead by lap seven and took the green-to-checkers feature victory over Shane Sicard and Logan Powers to cap off the evening.
White Mountain Motorsports Park returns with its biggest event of the summer on Saturday, August 3 for the 7th annual Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250. The American-Canadian Tour is back at White Mountain for their longest event of the summer, once again expecting to draw over 40 of the best short track stars in New England and Quebec to tackle the Woodstock highbanks for the $10,000 grand prize!
