(North Wilkesboro, NC)   After being postponed during NASCAR All-Star week in May at historic North Wilkesboro Speedway the zMax Cars Tour hit the track on Saturday night for the Reverend 100 Pro Late Model and Window World 125 Late Model Stock races. When all was said and done, well after midnight, the tour had two young guns riding the lift to victory lane.

Treyten Lapevich charged to the lead by passing Brenden Queen and held off a series of challenges down the stretch to score his first win of the season in only his 11th career start. Lapecevich started 4th but quickly worked his way to 2nd early in the race behind Queen.

Driving like a veteran, the Canadian driver was able to bide his time and eventually take the lead after a series of mid-race cautions.

The win was extra special to Lapecevich because it came at Wilkesboro.

“This is huge especially at a place like Wilkesboro where all the greats have raced and won”, Lapecevich stated.  “Chad Bryant Racing gave me such a great car and it could not have happened at a better place.”

The win did not come easy as Lapecevich encountered a couple incidents during the race that could have ended his night early.

On a restart early in the race Lapcevich had a problem that caused his car to lose momentum and lead to a big crash that involved a dozen cars. He was able to continue without  incident but several drivers were either eliminated from the race or sustained heavy damage including points leader Connor Hall.

“I want to apologize to everyone involved in that stack up,” Lapcevich said. “I made a mistake. We had a little issue with the clutch on this car back when we tested a couple of weeks ago and it slipped my mind to remind the guys at the shop. It was really touchy and I had to hit it perfectly to make my shifts. I just missed that one and I really apologize. My words can’t fix race cars and I know that but I really mean it and I’m really sorry about that tonight.”

While leading with less than five laps to go, Lapecevich ran over fluid on the track in turn 3 and scraped the outside wall while trying to avoid a stalled car. Narrowly missing the machine of Brandon Pierce, Lapecevich was able to retain the lead and pull away on the race’s final restart.

“I just wasn’t going to lose that race,” Lapcevich said. “The car was so good and we made it so much better at the break that I was just not going to lose this race.”

Corey Heim charged through the top five over the last twenty five laps to finish 2nd while Mini Tyrrell, Carson Kvapil and Queen rounded out the top 5.

In the Pro Late Model race to start the night, Tristan Mckee charged from his 2nd starting position on the grid into the lead on the first lap and proceeded to dominate the rest of the race.

Mckee was passed briefly by points leader Spencer Davis but the 14 year- old racer, who celebrated his birthday on race day was able to regain the lead quickly and hold off a last lap charge by NASCAR Truck Series point leader Corey Heim who came home 2nd. Rounding out the top 5 were Davis, Dylan Fetcho and Matt Craig.
