(Butler Township, PA 8-7-24): Evergreen Raceway will present another Sunday afternoon racing program, August 11, headlined by the DW Machine & Fabricating Late Model division.
Joining the Late Models will be the Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten plus the touring INEX Legends.
Racing will commence at 2:00 pm.
The last time the Late Models where on track Brian Sones scored a very popular win in the Dennis Wenner owned No. 1s, edging out four-time and defending champion Mike Sweeney. It was the first time winning for Sones with the class and likewise for car owner Wenner.
Heading into Sunday’s event Sweeney and Sones are separated by just one point as both drivers have been either one-two in each race thus far.
Roger Maynor and Brian Romig Jr., have produced consistent runs also, and will be looking to break the mold of the aforementioned pair. Likewise veteran drivers such as Nick Ross, Marc Aigeldinger, and Geno Steigerwalt are constant threats and this year there are some racy rookies in Brandon Cook, Griffin Hendershot and Brett Peters all showing good strength.
Can anyone beat Mike Pollack in the Street Stocks? That is the question right now as he has reeled off four straight wins. Gordon Buchman Jr., can certainly be counted on to do so as the Opening Day winner continues to give Pollack plenty of competition. Pollack may be on a roll but rest assured that Buchman and any of the others can spoil his party with a solid group of Streeters that make up the class.
The Four Cylinder Stocks will have a nice incentive this week thanks to division sponsor Himmer Graphics. If 20 or more cars are signed in there will be an additional $500 disbursed across the finishing order.
Each week has seen some fantastic racing too and a very close point battle to boot. The father and daughter combo of BJ and Maggie Wambold are 1-2 in the standings with just one point separating them. Johnny Bennett may have had a lackluster outing in last week’s feature but he is still keeping things close with the Wambold’s while Ralph Borger Jr., and Robert McNulty also doing well in fourth and fifth respectively.
Most recent winner Joe Barbush III has shown plenty of speed since getting behind the wheel of his sister Rebecca’s No. 22 and don’t count out TJ Kapish who has raced only three times but has won each time.
This entire field is loaded with talent and it seems that each feature always comes down to the wire. With the extra cash being offered there’s no doubt it will be another thriller come Sunday.
In a class all its own, the Rotten-and-Forgotten brings great side-by-side action each time they roll out onto the track. Sure it’s made up of mostly the Jensen clan, but nonetheless they make sure the fans are going to see a great race.
Evergreen welcomes back for a fourth time the INEX Legends. And in two of the past three outings it’s been Kevin Nowak picking up wins. But it hasn’t been easy as each time the fight at the front has been very intense. Drivers from Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey love taking in the Sunday shows and the track loves hosting them.
Pit gates will open at 10:30 am. Pit admission is $40 per person. Warm-ups will begin at 12:30 pm with heats starting at 2:00 pm.
The main grandstands open at noon. Adult admission is $12, kids 12 and under are free.
