Sophia, NC (November 6, 2024): It is often said that the only lap that truly counts is the last one. But at the 22nd Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout in Memory of Charles Kepley, each sponsored lap carries significant value. Thanks to the generous support of numerous individuals and organizations, the top three drivers on each sponsored lap will share $100.
Caraway Speedway has taken particular care to honor some of the event’s most distinguished figures. Laps 6 and 17 are dedicated to one of the North-South Shootout’s original founders, Ollie “Josh” Jenkins, a steadfast supporter of Southern modified racing. Through the Speedway’s generosity, these two laps will pay $200 each ($100 for first, $60 for second, and $40 for third). Similarly, Caraway will honor the legacy of race namesake John Blewett III on lap 76, awarding $500 to the leaders ($250 for first, $150 for second, and $100 for third).
None other than the “King of the Modifeds” himself, Junior Miller, has also sweetened the pot for tour-type Mod competitors. With, of course, lap 69 paying an impressive $700 with $400 going to the leader, $200 to second, $100 to third.
In a show of support for tour-type Modified teams and fellow promoters, Caraway Speedway, the team at MDP Racing Promotions, and the Racing Guys—promoters of the popular Racing Helping Racers events and other Modified races at Claremont Speedway in NH—contributed $1,000 to the purse through lap sponsorships.
The Winston-Salem, NC, law firm Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law, a longtime supporter of local racing, contributed $500 to lap sponsorship. Even more families and fans are remembering great figures such as founder Charles Kepley, Bill Brice, Carl Pasteryak, and others through this lap program.
A complete list of sponsored laps will be available soon on NorthSouthShootout.com.
