Winston Salem, NC (March 13, 2025) – Longtime motorsports reporters Bob and Matthew Dillner, along with Kevin Powell Speed Motorsports PR and Media Director, Derek Pernesiglio, are the on-air broadcast team for Flo Racing’s coverage for one of the biggest modified races in the country. The King of the Modifieds is scheduled for Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22, at South Boston Speedway (VA) for the SMART Modified Tour.
Bob and Matthew Dillner are familiar faces on the SMART Modified Tour. Currently, Bob Dillner serves as the voice of the series for its FloRacing broadcasts. Matthew Dillner is a content reporter and producer for the online network. The brothers will be calling the action in the booth for the event.
Derek Pernesiglio is the pit reporter for the King of the Modifieds. He returns to the broadcast team for the first time since the SMART Modified Tour finale at North Wilkesboro Speedway (NC) last year. In that event, teenager Luke Baldwin was crowned series champion. Baldwin is also the defending race winner for the King of the Modifieds.
“This is going to be fun,” said Pernesiglio. “I have to thank Brandon Brown from South Boston Speedway, the folks at Flo Racing, and Chris Williams from the SMART Modified Tour for this fantastic opportunity. I don’t get to report as often as I used to, and if there was ever a division in my wheelhouse, Modifieds are it.”
All three broadcasters are originally from Long Island, New York, which is a hotbed for modified racing.
“Bob, Matt and I have worked together many times.” Pernesiglio said. “We have an understanding of each other and work well together to find the stories to keep the viewers and fans informed.”
“Passion, that’s what modified racing is all about.” Bob Dillner explained. “That’s also why it is important to have Derek as part of our broadcast anytime we can for SMART on FloRacing. We are all longtime modified racing fans. Knowledge of our sport is paramount to making a good broadcast and we’re excited to bring that to the viewers on Flo.”
Joining the trio of Long Islanders on the raceday broadcast will be South Boston Speedway announcer Kyle Hoehne. He and Bob Dillner will call the action for the NASCAR Late Model twin features and STAR Super Stocks, while Pernesiglio will be roaming the pit area for those events.
“Bob, Matthew and Derek did such a phenomenal job last year teaming up on our broadcast,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager, Brandon Brown. “I think the second edition of the King of the Modifieds will be even better because we know how skilled and meticulous they all are in how they prepare, not only for the Modifieds, but also the Late Models and the STAR Super Stocks Tour.”
With the race growing in its second year, South Boston Speedway management made the decision to make the King of the Modifieds a two-day event.
“We are thrilled to host the second annual King of the Modifieds.” Brandon Brown said. “Last year the place was splitting at the seams, and we expect that same level of excitement again at South Boston Speedway. We couldn’t think of a better way to begin our season.”
The two-day event starts on Friday March 21, with practice and qualifying for the $20,000 to win, King of the Modifieds. All three divisions, Late Models, Super Stocks and SMART Modifieds will be in action on Saturday, March 22. Flo Racing will broadcast both days.
Advanced tickets are $20 and $25 on race day. Tickets are $20 for seniors, active-duty military, veterans, first responders and students, no matter when they buy. Admission for qualifying night is free. Tickets for the race can be purchased online at www.southbostonspeedway.com.
