NEW EGYPT & SWEDESBORO, NJ – In an effort to make the headline division more affordable, both Bridgeport Motorsports Park and New Egypt Speedway will allow the CT525 engines in 2025 and beyond.
The CT525 engine has been made legal at tracks and series in New York and Canada and will now be allowed at both dirt track facilities in the Garden State.
“The future of our sport is paramount,” explained Doug Rose, Bridgeport Motorsports Park owner and operator. “We need to find avenues to help the racer’s budget, and we believe this is one of those avenues.”
The CT525 makes 540hp-plus and 500 ft-lbs. of peak torque as an aluminum block Chevy LS engine.
The CT525 engine costs just under $9,900 minus a carburetor, exhaust, and front engine assembly (power steering, alternator, pulleys, fans, etc.).
The spec engines were the original cost savor, coming in at around $8,500 during the 1990’s. Over time, with the expansion of technology, those engine prices have swelled north of $35,000.
Not only will racing become more affordable for current Modified teams but also gives current Crate Sportsman drivers a reasonably priced option to move up into the Modified division.
“It’s no secret engine prices have increased, greatly effecting our local racers,” stated New Egypt Speedway owner Fred Vahlsing. “Everybody is searching for a way to make our headline division more affordable for the weekly racer and we certainly believe this could become that option.”
Modifieds with the CT525 engine in will be required to weigh 2,300 lbs., making it an easy option for competitors to race at both facilities.
The engines will also be capped at 7400 RPM, subject to technical inspection, in an effort to prolong the engines lifespan.
The CT525 engine life expectancy is more than two years and can last up to three to four years. The modern-day PA/NJ spec-358 engines, meanwhile, are being rebuilt after no more than one season and sometimes between 500-700 laps.
All CT525 engines being used by Bridgeport or New Egypt competitors must be purchased through their respective speedway and sealed by said speedway.
With the 2025 season just around the corner, both Bridgeport and New Egypt believe the proper information has been acquired regarding the CT525 engine to make it a reasonable and competitive option moving forward.
Competitors interested must contact Pete Telesco (Bridgeport, 732.501.6892) or Mark Blackwell (New Egypt, 609.381.1367) for purchase and sealing information.
Complete information and rules on the CT525 have been updated on both speedway websites: www.bridgeportmotorsportspark.com (Bridgeport) and www.newegyptspeedway.net (New Egypt).
