WALL, NJ ~ After blistering Wall Stadium Speedway’s third mile high banked paved oval in qualifying, Eddie McCarthy rocketed to the lead early and held off several competitors to win the opening night 40-lap Modified stock car main event Saturday night. It was the Brick residents seventh Modified win here.

Four restarts offered McCarthy plenty of challenges. Tommy Martino, Jr. of Red Bank was the first to try to pass the leader, before former champ Derek Hopkinson of Milltown moved into contention. Later Mayetta’s Tyler Truex wrestled his way into second and attacked McCarthy before settling for runner up honors. Hopkinson, Jackson’s Blake Barney and defending champ Andrew Krause of Freehold wrapped up the top five with Martino finishing sixth.

“The car was not the way we wanted it in practice, but it really came around in qualifying and was great in the race,” McCarthy said. “Those restarts kept me on my toes. There is a lot of good competition here so every restart is a challenge.”

Brian Osborn of Howell fought off Shanon Mongeau of Island Heights to win the season opening 25 lap race for the Factory Stocks. Howell’s Rob Anderton and Manchester’s Scott Riggleman wrestled for third before Anderton nailed down the spot. Howell’s Johnny Carpenter was fifth.

Young Zach Lenardo of Iselin won the 25 lap Sportsman main event, surviving a spin by the early leader and a multi-car mid-race front stretch pile-up. Former champ Chris Silvestri, Chris Laureigh, Avery Arthofer and Brianna Page wrapped up the top five.

Mike Alcaro of West Milford dominated the 25 lap race for the Legend Cars over former champ Tanner Jones, Justin Emmons, Bryan Gardella and Chris Gall wrapping up the first five. Wall’s TJ Graves was tops in the Fast 4 feature while Ray Minieri of Miller Place, NY won the Limited Late Model 25 lapper.

After taking this coming Saturday night to observe the Memorial Day Weekend, the 2025 Wall Stadium Speedway season continues on Saturday night, May 31, with the Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Sportsman, Legend Cars, Fast 4 cars and Limited Late Models in competition. Qualifying is at 5:00 p.m. with main events starting at 7:00 p.m.
