(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway hosted its SK Light Modified division for an extra distance 40-lap King of the Crate feature event as part of the GAF Roofing Modified Masters program on Wednesday, July 16th.  Peter Bennett was the big winner of the night, capturing the King of the Crate title for his very first career feature victory at Stafford Speedway.

In the 40-lap King of the Crate SK Light feature event, Joey Ferrigno took the early lead with Ron Midford, Jr., Josh Morrison, Peter Bennett, and Sami Anderson lined up behind him.  Stephen Kalogiannis brought the caution flag out with 1 lap complete coming to a stop on the frontstretch infield grass.

Midford ran wheel to wheel with Ferrigno and led lap-2 by a nose before getting clear into the lead on lap-3.  Peter Bennett moved into second on lap-4, dropping Ferrigno back to third with Morrison fourth and Anderson fifth.  Bennett took the lead from Midford on lap-7 before Chris Matthews got into the backstretch wall and collected the car of Sophya Papp to bring the caution flag back out with 7 laps complete.

Bennett took the lead with Midford right behind him in second.  Anderson moved into third with Ferrigno going wheel to wheel with Meg Fuller for fourth place.  Ferrigno took fourth and then he made a move to the inside of Anderson to move into third on lap-11.  Anderson came right back to the inside of Ferrigno and took third place back on lap-12.  Amanda West was now up to fifth place as Bennett continued to lead the race with Midford in second.  The caution came back out with 16 laps complete as Nick Anglace and Jason Chapman got into the wall in the middle of turns 1+2.

Bennett took the lead back under green with Midford, Anderson, West, and Fuller lined up behind him.  Nickolas Hovey took fifth place from Fuller on lap-21 and he began to set his sights on West for fourth place.  The caution came back out with 21 laps complete for Dylan Houghton and Jason Chapman going around in turn 2.

The restart saw the back half of the field get bottled up going into turn 1 to immediately bring the caution flag back out.

Bennett and Midford ran wheel to wheel for the lead back under green but the green only stayed out for a lap before the caution came back out for a spin in turn 2 by West that collected Josh Morrison, Tyler Barry, Casey Vogt, Emma Monahan, and several others.

Bennett took the lead on the restart with Midford all over his back bumper in second.  Midford had to check up on lap-24 which allowed Anderson to move into second.  Midford was now wheel to wheel with Hovey for third while Fuller was side by side with Robert Bloxsom, III for fifth place.  With 10 laps to go the order was Bennett, Anderson, Hovey, Bloxsom, and Midford.

Hovey was looking high and low for a way to get around Anderson for second but Anderson was able to hold him off.  Hovey was finally able to make the pass for second place on lap-37 with Bennett still in command.  Bennett led Hovey to the checkered flag to pick up his first career win at Stafford Speedway.  Anderson finished third with Bloxsom and Midford rounding out the top-5.
