(Stafford Springs, CT)—This Friday night, July 25th will see Stafford Speedway host the biggest Limited Late Model race of the season, the Riley Generators Limited Late Model 30. One driver looking forward to the race is Rich Hammann. Hammann is the defending champion of the Riley Generators 30 and he is looking to put his #28 Striebel Trucking machine back in NAPA Victory Lane for the second consecutive season.
“I’m feeling pretty good for the race,” said Hammann. “I always like the extra 10 laps and I always seem to do better with the longer races. I wish we could run 30 laps every week. I really have to thank Rob from Rob Russell Chassis, Striebel Trucking, and Doctor Sean from LifeCare Family Chiropractic for all standing behind me. Also thanks to my team, Tyler, Hailey, Matt, Ken, and all the RRC guys, we all help each other.”
Hammann goes into the Riley Generators LLM 30 still looking for his first win of the 2025 season. Hammann has twice reached the podium this season, including a season best 2nd place finish the last time the Limited Late Model division raced on July 11th, and he has a stellar record in Limited Late Model extra distance races. Hammann won a 25-lap race during the 2022 season and he was making a move for the lead with 2 laps to go in the 2023 Riley Generators 30 when contact with another car resulted in a flat tire and an 11th place finish. Hammann won last year’s edition of the extra distance event and another victory would make it two in a row and three out of four for Hammann in extra distance races at Stafford.
“We probably should have won the ‘23 race but I got a flat tire with a couple laps to go when I touched wheels with another car while going for the lead,” said Hammann. “I think and I really hope that this race can be our first win of the year. We just have to stay out of trouble for 30 laps. I haven’t really been too happy yet this season. I feel like we probably should have had a couple of wins by now, but with the heat and the rubber on the track, we’re still looking for a setup that will work.”
Although Hammann says he’s still looking for a setup that will help put him back in NAPA Victory Lane, he has a car that is good on a long run and doesn’t fall off, which is just what he’ll need to come out on top in the Riley Generators 30.
“With my car the handling usually doesn’t go away, it stays the same throughout the race and doesn’t drop off where others drop off quite a bit.”
Hammann currently sits tied for 7th place in the 2025 Limited Late Model standings going into the Riley Generators 30. That number by itself might seem like too tall of a mountain for Hammann to climb before the season ends in October, but he is only 18 points out of the lead. Hammann is eying a victory in the Riley Generators 30 to kick start his second half of the 2025 season and to get back in the thick of the championship fight.
“I’m not getting any younger so I’m hoping for another championship and a win in this race would really help us out as far as winning the championship goes,” said Hammann. “It would put us in a better striking position for sure and the competition is so close right now that everyone is within a couple tenths of a second of each other and all it takes is one minor slip-up and you’re going to go backwards several positions. Right now there’s probably about 15 different cars that could win a race at any time and I think we put on one of the best shows. We’re going to take things one race at a time and see what happens.”
