WALL, NJ ~ Tyler Truex of Mayetta earned the biggest win of his career and the $7,127 first prize Saturday night by coming from behind to win the 127 lap Cliff Krause Memorial at Wall Stadium Saturday night. The evening was an emotional one at the third mile paved oval as the large grandstand crowd remembered the late promoter Cliff Krause along with former racer Jack Duffy and superfan Garry Owen McGuigan who passed away just before the event. The date also marked the 18th anniversary of the passing of Modified racer John Blewett III.

When the green flag waved on the race Jackson’s Steven Reed was the leader as Freehold’s Andrew Krause charged to the front of the field. Krause was in second in just six laps before battling Reed until lap 22 when he took the lead. Meanwhile, Truex, who started 15th, was forced tto drop to the pit area for service early and then began to fight his way to the front.

As the Krause wore on Krause seemed to have things well in hand as he stretched and advantage. That all changed on lap 111 when he dropped from the top with with mechanical trouble. When many of the top runners pitted for a tire change, leader Blake Barney stayed on track while Truex arrived in the top three along with Reed.

Truex then hounded Barney before diving to the inside lane and into the lead with just three laps remaining. Reed slipped into second at the end, with North Carolina’s Carsten DiGiantomasso, Howell’s James Blewett and Barney wrapping up the top five.

“I never thought I’d be here at the end of this race,” Truex said. “The cover came off my brake master cylinder and was dumping brake fluid all over my feet early in the race. We had to go to the pits to fix that and then come from the rear. I am just so glad to win this for my father. He has been having some health battles for a long time.”

Neil Rutt III of Colts Neck won his second straight Sportsman main even in the night’s 27-lapper. Rutt battled several late race challengers before crossing the finish line in front of

Rahway’s Billy Both, Iselin’s Zach Lenardo, Chris Silvestri of Hazlet and Wall’s Sean Vuksanic.

Howell’s Brian Osborn raced into the lead at the half way point and drove on to win the 27 lapper for the Factory Stocks. Johnny Carpenter of Howell, Manchester’s Scott Riggleman, Nick Bilello and James Hall were second through fifth.

Ryan Tidman of Southampton, Pa. won the 27 lap race for the touring TQ Midgets. He raced into the lead early in the non-stop event. Anthony Payne, Tyler Ferris, Jeff Kott and Buddy Sload completed the top five.

Wall Stadium will return to action on Saturday night, August 23. The Modified cars, Sportsman cars, Factory Stocks, Fast 4 cars, Limited Late Models and TQ Midgets will all be in action. Qualifying is at 5:00 p.m. with main events starting at 7:00 p.m.
