SOPHIA, N.C. (October 27, 2025) — As Caraway Speedway celebrates its 60th anniversary, the historic North Carolina short track continues to look forward—investing in infrastructure improvements that ensure a top-tier racing experience for competitors and fans alike.

Over the past several months, Caraway’s dedicated team, led by Darren Hackett and family, has worked tirelessly to make a series of upgrades across the facility. Among the most notable enhancements are the removal of the curbs and the extension of the apron in all four turns, allowing for smoother racing lines and increased safety. The entrance to pit road has been widened, with the inside wall set back, creating a safer and more accessible entry point for competitors. Meanwhile, the exit of pit road has been relocated to the backstretch off Turn Two, improving flow and reducing congestion.

Additional improvements include a widened and repaved pit road, a new drainage system along the front pit road, and freshly painted striping throughout the facility.

“These changes were made with both drivers and fans in mind,” said track owner Darren Hackett. “We take great pride in the history of Caraway Speedway, but we’re equally focused on its future. Our goal is to make this a place racers love to compete and fans love to visit.”

In recent seasons, Caraway has also added new amenities to enhance the overall race-day experience. The installation of new aluminum grandstands in 2024, a brand-new scoreboard in 2021, and the launch of CarawaySpeedway.TV—the track’s own streaming platform debuting for the 2025 season—underscore Hackett’s commitment to accessibility, comfort, and innovation.

With these upgrades in place, the stage is set for one of the most anticipated events of the season—the 23rd Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout in Memory of Charles Kepley, where the best Modified drivers will battle for bragging rights and glory.

The John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout in Memory of Charles Kepley is set for Friday and Saturday, November 7–8, 2026, at Caraway Speedway. The full lineup includes 125 laps for the Tour-Type Modifieds, 60 laps for the ISMA/MSS Supermodifieds, as well as 602 Modifieds, Crown Vics, Challengers, and Legends. The Vintage Fall Classic will also be part of the festivities. Visit CarawaySpeedway.com or NorthSouthShootout.com for more information.
