Barre, VT – While the Maplefields/Irving Late Models are center stage all weekend long in both qualifying and contesting the Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America, there is plenty of other action throughout the annual end-of-season spectacular at Thunder Road. Alongside the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors that call the Nation’s Site of Excitement home all year round, three additional ‘outsider’ divisions will join in for one of New England’s greatest racing spectacle this Saturday and Sunday.
On Booth Bros./Hood Milk Qualifying Day Saturday, the New England Supermodified Series (NESS) returns to Thunder Road for their second appearance of the season. While Jon McKennedy won the McGee Hyundai of Barre Super Friday 75 back in June, it is unclear if the open-wheeled master will be able to make the trip and defend his early victory. All eyes are sure to be on Jeffrey Battle after storming on the scene to take six wins in ten events so far this season, he looks to further pad his point lead before the championship finale at the Sunoco World Series of Racing at Thompson Speedway on October 12.
Booth Bros./Hood Milk Qualifying Day also holds a first-ever event for the popular NELCAR Legends, a scaled down car similar visually to the old Class A Coupes that ran the first Milk Bowls in the early 1960s! These mighty machines are powered by a 1100cc Yamaha motor and put on excellent racing across the world while NELCAR brings these touring teams across New England. This will be the first ever event for the Legend cars at Thunder Road with many drivers excited about the prospect!
On Sunday, as part of the 63rd Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank, the Dad’s 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division will be coming in from White Mountain Motorsports Park for a special Mini Milk Bowl invitational! Open to the young drivers who have honed their skills all summer at White Mountain, this will be the first time in several years that the Kids have been invited to the Milk Bowl with a lot of buzz in the pit area these last several weeks since the announcement.
As always, the high honors for the Mini Milk Bowl are almost as coveted as the season-long championship battle in the Flying Tigers and Street Stocks while the win is also the biggest bragging right for the non-point Road Warriors. Logan Powers will be pulling Double Duty, looking for a good run the first time behind the wheel of a Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Late Model while trying to defend his Flying Tiger Mini Milk Bowl win. Tommy ‘Thunder’ Smith will be looking to earn his 41st career win in the Street Stock Mini Milk Bowl while Kyler Davis is looking to make it a perfect season with the championship and the Milk Bowl win!
The 63rd running of the Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank is set for Saturday and Sunday, October 4th and 5th. The $100,000 Vermont Milk Bowl kicks off with Booth Bros./Hood Qualifying Day on Saturday with Time Trial and Triple 50s qualifying for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Late Models before the Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America kicks off on Sunday with the support of Northfield Savings Bank. Mark your calendars for the annual end-of-season spectacular with special events for all four Thunder Road divisions plus invaders like the New England Supermodified Series (NESS), NELCAR Legends Tour and the White Mountain Kid’s Division.
Saturday’s Booth Bros./Hood Milk Qualifying Day begins at 1:00pm with grandstands opening at 9:00am. Adult General Admission is available for $30 on Saturday with Kids 12-6 for $10 and children five and under free! A Two-Day ticket is also available on Saturday with Adults set at $55 and Kids 12-6 for $20.
