FONDA, NY – Celebration denied.
Fonda Speedway set to kick off the countdown to America’s 250th birthday on Wednesday night with the annual Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Firecracker 50’ event.
The event was to include STSS Modified HYTORC of New York Modified North Region Round No. 2 (50 laps, $7,776 to win), STSS Sportsman Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region Round No. 3 (30 laps, $1,776 to win) plus the Online Performance Parts/Stone Motorsports Street Stocks (20 laps, $500 to win) and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders.
Mother Nature, however, had other plans.
A significant rain shower at 6 p.m. first put the program under delay before a second round of severe thunderstorms led to the event’s postponement.
The entire ‘Firecracker 50’ program will now take place on Thursday, July 16.
All wristbands and car registration fees transfer to the reschedule date.
The 50/50 winner’s share had climbed to $1,376 despite the short evening. The raffle will climb from there on July 16 (hold on to your 50/50 tickets).
Fonda Speedway is silent July 4 and will return to action July 11 when Palmer’s Service Center presents Amsterdam Truck Center Twin 20s plus Swagger Factory Apparel Sportsman, Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman and Fonda Fair Four Cylinders.
The Short Track Super Series heads to New York’s picturesque Finger Lakes on Thursday, July 9 for the Dave Machuga Memorial Outlaw Showdown at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., Round No. 2 of the HYTORC of New York North Region for the STSS Modifieds (50 laps, $7,078.78 to win).
The Track of Champions Fonda Speedway has hosted the best in stock car racing for 75 seasons. The speedway operates weekly on Saturday nights from April through August plus several special events. Fonda Speedway is located on the Montgomery County Fairgrounds off New York State Thruway Exit No. 28 at 21 S. Bridge Street Fonda, NY 12068.
