Friday, July 10th, 2026: After an incident this past weekend at Caraway Speedway during the Revolutionary 99 that left the #04 Polaris Off Road, SMART Modified car with extensive front and rear damage, the plans have not changed for Brandon Ward and the Kevin Powell Speed Motorsports team. The team, led by car owner Kevin Powell are still keeping their focus on competing for the SMART Modified Tour championship this season. The team has already gone to work building a new car in the shop while the previous car is headed to the chassis shop for repairs.

This weekend the team has decided to forego competing at their weekly track, Bowman Gray Stadium to focus their efforts on keeping themselves in the points chase, making the playoffs and winning the upcoming SMART Modified Tour race at Pulaski Motorsports Park in Fairlawn, Virginia. The team will debut a brand new Fury chassis led by crew chief, Will Spaugh.

Ward, who currently sits sixth in SMART Modified Tour points, 51 markers out of the lead, knows there’s time to bounce back. “We haven’t lost focus on what we want to do, ” said driver Brand Ward. “If you race, wrecks are going to happen and unfortunately it happened to us recently at Caraway but Will Spaugh and the rest of this KP Speed Motorsports team are already hard at work putting a new car together while getting the previous car repaired. The season is far from over and we still have a chance to make the playoffs and compete for a championship and that’s what we’re gonna do.”

Car owner Kevin Powell is a seasoned veteran of the sport and understands what goes into winning a championship. “Championship teams aren’t defined by how they respond when everything goes right.” Said Powell, “They’re defined by how they respond when things go wrong. We hate tearing up race cars, but nobody on this team is hanging their head. Brandon, Will, and everyone on our team have gone right back to work. Our goal hasn’t changed one bit. We’re building another race car, we’re staying focused on the SMART Modified championship, and we fully expect to be in the fight to contend for another championship here at KP speed.”

The next race for the Kevin Powell Speed Motorsports, SMART Modfieid team will be Friday, August, 7th at Pulaski Motorsports Park, formerly known as Motor MIle Speedway Where Ward has laps in both Modified and Late Model competition. All races for the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic can be watched live on Flo Racing.
