Sharpe, Jankowiak, Szafraniec and Welshans Also Score Victories During Busch Light 150
HOLLAND, N.Y. (August 29, 2026) — The thunder returned to the high banks of Holland Speedway Saturday night as the Race of Champions brought the Busch Light 150 to Western New York.
The headline event of the evening was the 60-lap Race of Champions Sportsman Modified Series George Decker Memorial, where Andy Lewis Jr. of Ontario, N.Y. continued his impressive run by earning his third consecutive victory.
Kevin Timmerman brought the 28-car field to the green flag and controlled the early portion of the race while Lewis and Mason Hanel began working their way toward the front.
A caution on lap 16 changed the complexion of the race. On the restart, Chris Finocchario worked his way into the lead while the battle intensified behind him.
By lap 28, Lewis was battling Jake Vernon for third and continued his march toward the front.
Late-race cautions created a series of restarts, but Lewis was up to the challenge. When racing resumed for the final time, Lewis powered from second into the top spot and held on to earn his third consecutive Holland Speedway victory.
“All of the restarts at the end, I didn’t like those one bit, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do,” Lewis said in Victory Lane. “It was really hard racing. It’s fun racing like that.”
Shawn Nye of Lancaster, N.Y. finished second, with Mason Hanel of Clarence Center, N.Y. completing the podium.
Sharpe, Andy Jankowiak, Jake Szafraniec and Welshans also visited Victory Lane during the season-ending Holland Speedway program.
McPHERSON TOPS 33-CAR FIELD AT OHSWEKEN
Cody McPherson of St. Catharines, Ontario, came out on top Friday night at Ohsweken Speedway in the Race of Champions 602 Dirt Sportsman Modified Series event.
McPherson bested a strong 33-car field, topping 32 other competitors to earn the victory in the Stirling Lubricants Sportsman Shootout at the Ontario dirt oval.
