DW Machine & Fabricating Company signs on as race sponsor
(Butler Township, Pa. 9-20-26) There is big news for Late Model racers in advance of Evergreen Raceway’s 25th Annual King of the Green (KoG).
The feature race slated for Sunday, November 1, will be run over a 100-lap distance and pay the winner a cool $5000 and it’s all thanks to DW Machine & Fabricating Company of Drums who has come onboard as the official race sponsor.
Late Model racer Dennis Wenner, owner of DW Machine & Fabricating Company recently met with Evergreen owner/promoter Jason Makarewicz to firm up the race.
“This is my home track, and I want to race against not only the great competition we already have here but a lot of outsiders too and give fans an impressive show of Late Models,” said Wenner.
“The draw is to get some out-of-town guys and put on a good race, and this is a really respectable purse that I am certain will bring together a great field of cars.”
The race will be now referred to as the “DW Machine & Fabricating Company King of the Green Late Model 100.”
DW Machine & Fabricating Company is a fabricating metal machine shop located at 77 Oak St, Drums. Established in 2006, they have advanced equipment, skilled technicians, and decades of manufacturing experience and deliver precision machining and fabrication services that meet diverse industry needs from prototyping to full-scale production. Evergreen previously held 100-lap Late Model races between 2005 to 2011 under the former NELMA banner although the $5000-to-win will mark a record payday for a Late Model winner at Evergreen.
“I feel we will get cars from out in western Pennsylvania and beyond, all of the New York and New England region and from down south too,” said Wenner.
“In the little bit of time that we’ve talked about this there has been some very good feedback from other racers that I spoke with.”
Evergreen Late Model rules will apply for the race with a few updates to be announced soon. 20 cars will start the feature, and time trials will be used to set the top-15 while a B-main will be run to fill out the remaining spots. The top eight from time trials will redraw for the feature.
Other contingencies are in the works including a Fast Time Award sponsored by RJM Mechanical of Mary D and several others that, along with a complete race format and payout will be forthcoming.
Drivers can pre-register for the race by Friday, October 23. The cost to preregister is $100, afterwards it is $150.
Five-time Evergreen Late Model champion and defending KoG winner Mike Sweeney has already added his name to this year’s event.
“This is awesome and to see that someone like Dennis (Wenner) is putting in the effort and it’s going to be a great race for Late Models and our time to shine,” said Sweeney, who has amassed 88 Late Model wins between Evergreen, Mahoning Valley and Jennerstown Speedways.
“It’s definetley going to be tough even though we do run well at Evergreen but there is no doubt a lot of good teams and drivers will be coming and making this a challenge for sure.”
The King of the Green takes place over two weekends, starting on Sunday, October 18, with 602 Crate Modifieds, Harry’s U-Pull-It Street Stocks, Rookie 602 Crate Modifieds, McNulty Funeral Home Four Cylinder Novice, East Coast Legends and the East Coast TQ Midgets.
On Sunday, November 1 King of the Green weekend two will see the Late Models joined by the Tour Type Modifieds, Himmer Graphics Four Cylinders, Rotten-and-Forgotten and Factory Stocks.
The day prior to each weekend there will be an open practice from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Saturday, November 7, will be used as a rain date for either weekends.
