Heading into the Championship Sunday program Sunday September 27th at Riverhead Raceway the Street Stock and Truck Enduro competitors will have some extra financial motivation heading into their final point races of 2026. John Cozza, who won Truck Enduro & Grand Enduro championships at the famed quarter mile announced recently his Hot Rod Shop of Venice, Florida is adding $500 to the podium finishers of the Street Stock and Truck Enduro feature events Sunday. The Street Stock event will be increased to 30-laps, while the Truck Enduro stretches out to 59-laps, the number that Cozza made famous during his driving days.
“Championship Sunday has a special flare to it, always has” Cozza shared while making the announcement. “I wanted to give back to Street Stock and Truck Enduro teams, stimulate further what is already a special day for them”. Many in the Enduro family at Riverhead Raceway consider John Cozza the father of Truck Enduro racing for his role in the formation of the division, something Cozza sheepishly admits, “yeah, I had a hand in that”. Cozza was a 22-time winner in the class earning the 2009 championship. Truth be told many of John’s win came before points were tabulated for the division, otherwise he might have a few more titles. In 2008 John won the season long Grand Enduro championship with that class morphing into today’s Street Stock class.
The top three Street Stock and Truck Enduro finishers Sunday will take home $250, $150 & $100 from the Hot Rod Shop of Venice, Florida where John and his wife Janet winter to escape the cold winters of Long Island. Additionally, Cozza will add trophies for the top three finishers with the 1989 Blunderbust champion also disclosing, “I want to make this an annual event for the Street Stocks and Truck Enduro teams to enhance their Championship Sunday”.
Joining the Street Stock 30 and Truck Enduro 59 Sunday are the Mini Stocks, INEX Bandoleros, 8-Cylinder Enduro, 4/6-Cylinder Enduro, Women’s Enduro, Kids Big Wheel Race and JuiceBox Racers all on the program.
