LANCASTER, N.Y. (September 19, 2026) – The 38th Annual US Open at Lancaster Motorplex continued on Saturday night, with thrilling races all night long. Tyler Catalano led all 50-laps to earn the win in the Sportsman feature. Tommy Catalano from Ontario, NY outdueled Scott Wylie to pick up the win in the Super Stocks. Andy Jankowiak from Tonawanda, NY won his second Mighty TQ Midget US Open, while Cheektowaga’s David Brunka earned his second 4 Cylinder triumph at the Open.
Tyler Catalano and Jake Christman were on the front row for the 50-lap Sportsman event, with Tyler Catalano taking the early race lead. Tommy Catalano spun in turn three to bring out the initial race caution, resulting in a complete restart. Tyler would take off in the lead on the start ahead of Christman, Shawn Nye, Andy Jankowiak, and Timmy Catalano. The Whelen safety lights would light up on lap eight as Jake Vernon and Billy Mislin spun coming off turn four. The restart would once again see Tyler Catalano showing the way. With Catalano leading, the battle was on for second between Christman, Nye, Jankowiak, and Skora. After battling since the drop of the green flag, Jankowiak was successful in passing Nye for third on lap 23. Jankowiak would take over second on lap 25, with Skora moving into third after passing Christman. The red flag would come out on lap 26 as Trevor Catalano made hard contact with the front straightaway wall. Trevor was able to climb out on his own. The restart saw Tyler Catalano and Jankowiak on the front row, with the duo battling for the top spot ahead of George Skora III, Mike Fiebelkorn Jr, and Christman. Skora would reel in Jankowiak and Catalano, setting up a three-car battle for the lead in the late going of the event. Mason Hanel would pass Mike Fiebelkorn for fourth place on lap 37. Catalano would hold off Jankowiak and Skora to pick up the win.
Derrick Vogler and Joe Mancuso led the field of Super Stocks to the green flag for their 40-lap event, with Vogler in the lead. Tommy Baron would take the lead at the end of lap one, with Scott Wylie, Brian Hallet, Jacob Gustafson and Tommy Catalano all racing in the top five. Wylie would take the lead away on lap eight, with Jason Dieter entering the top five just two laps later. Tommy Catalano would pass Gustafson on lap 16 to take over second, with Hallett moving into third on lap 17. After much of the race battling for the lead, Catalano would take over the top spot on lap 34. Wylie would reclaim the lead on lap 36, but Catalano would regain the lead coming to the white flag and would go on to score the win.
Mark Schulz and Steve Lewis Jr shared the front row in the Mighty TQ Midgets feature, with Schulz in the lead ahead of Nick Groff, Lewis, Andy Jankowiak, and Jacob Schulz. Jankowiak would work his way to second and would challenge Schulz for the lead. The lead duo would pull away from the balance of the field. While working lap traffic, Jankowiak would make a move to take the lead coming to the white flag and would go on to win his second Mighty TQ Midget US Open victory.
Mason Russo and Chris Deyoe Jr brought the field of 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their US Open event, with Deyoe taking off in the lead ahead of Russo, with Hunter McKay, Russ Bulger Jr, and David Brunka racing in the top five. The leaders approached lap traffic on lap seven, with the top four of Deyoe, Russo, Brunka, and McKay pulling away from the field. Ashton Hannon spun in turn one to bring out the caution on lap 11. Brunka would take over second on the restart and would challenge Deyoe for the lead and he would take the lead away on lap 13. Brunka would hold off Deyoe to pick up the win.
Sunday at the Open will be headlined by the Tour-Type Modifieds in their 75-lap event. The Street Stocks will race in the BRK Memorial, plus the Late Models and the Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4’s will all be in competition. Racing on Sunday will begin at 1:30pm, with grandstands opening at 11am, and pits opening at 9:30am. Grandstand admission is $30 for adults, $25 for seniors/veterans, $15 for students 11-16, and kids 10 and under will be admitted FREE with a paid Adult admission.
