WESTMINSTER, Mass. — Rameau Family Motorsports owner Randy Rameau has tabbed Craig Lutz to drive the car in the upcoming Thompson 300 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Sunday, October 10. Lutz will compete in the $20,000 to win race on the high-banks of Thompson looking to grab the checkered flag in the special event.
Team driver Sam Rameau is not able to make this event, as he is continuing his education at college. Randy Rameau made contact with Lutz about competing for the team and the deal came together quickly. They expect to be top contenders in the historic race. It will be the first time in nearly 15 years that the 300-lap race returns to the Connecticut oval — this time promoted by the American-Canadian Tour and Pro All Star Series.
“Randy and I have always talked to each other and my crew chief Douglas Ogiejko has always been friendly with Randy,” Lutz said. “It just happened to work out. Sammy can’t make this one and I was lucky enough to get a phone call to drive the car. It’s cool to be able to put together a deal for almost every Modified race that has been run since Russell Goodale shut down his team. I’m thankful for all of the opportunities and looking forward to getting to Thompson and trying to perform.”
Lutz doesn’t exactly know what the strategy is going to look like for the race team. With 300 green flag laps on tap, no one knows what to expect.
“There are 300 laps for things to go wrong,” Lutz said. “You have to minimize mistakes and try to have good pit stops and have a good strategy to be there at the end. There are a lot of unknowns, so I don’t think anyone has the right strategy until the race plays out. It’s going to be a team effort and whoever wins is going to have earned it.”
The race day schedule includes practice on Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9, with all qualifying and feature racing set to take place on Sunday, October 10. Tickets will be available at the track for those who would like to attend in person. The race is the finale of a full weekend of action with 17 different divisions set to compete. The Thompson 300 is slated to take the green flag at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and will also air live on Speed51.TV.
