Waterbury, VT and Naples, ME — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) and Modified Racing Series (MRS) will be part of the 60th Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and Pro All Stars Series (PASS) have officially announced the additions of both series, which join the Outlaw Open Modified Series Thompson 300 as part a Tour-type Modified tripleheader at the 2022 edition of the annual racing festival.

The NWMT Sunoco World Series 150 is on the Sunoco World Series card for Saturday, October 8, 2022. It will be the second visit of the year to Thompson Speedway for the NASCAR Whelen Modifieds, joining the Thompson 150 on Wednesday, August 17. They mark the 149th and 150th events, respectively, for the series at the historic 5/8-mile oval.

The Modified Racing Series, meanwhile, will run a 75-lap feature to headline the Friday, October 7 program. It’s the 22nd trip to Thompson Speedway for the MRS and first since the 2019 Sunoco World Series.

Both races are part of the build-up to the $20,000-to-win Thompson 300 on Sunday, October 9, 2022 for the Outlaw Open Modified Series. Keith Rocco was the victor in the 2021 edition, which was the first Thompson 300 since 2005.

All told, there will be more than 500 laps of feature racing for Tour-type Modifieds at the 2022 Sunoco World Series. Officials are exploring potential bonus programs for drivers who compete in all three races.

“This is going to be a great three days of racing for Modified teams and fans,” ACT managing partner Cris Michaud said. “Tour-type Modifieds have long been the anchor of the World Series. For the 60th edition, we wanted to go all-out. Once talks opened up with NASCAR to have one Whelen Modified Tour event, it didn’t take much to make it two. Add in the return of the Thompson 300, which we thought was a great race last year, and an MRS show to beef up the Friday card, and we think the 60th World Series will be one to remember.”

Officials further announced that the Sunoco Modified Triple Crown Series, which debuted in 2021 with SK Modified® events on all three days of the Sunoco World Series, will return in 2022. The PASS Super Late Models and ACT Late Model Tour have also been confirmed for the 60th World Series, giving fans of full-fender racing two big shows.

The full Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park 2022 oval track schedule is expected to be announced by Thanksgiving. Additional World Series divisions and series will be added throughout 2022.
