2021 SEASON-ENDING CELEBRATION
–Season Ending Celebration Awards Championships to Austin Beers; Daryl Lewis, Jr.; Tommy Barron; Andrew Lewis, Jr., and Bob Palmer at Genesee River Restaurant & Reception Center-
Mount Morris, NY – (January 24, 2022) – The Race of Champions Series family of participants, officials and fans gathered at the Genesee River Restaurant & Reception Center in Mount Morris (NY) for an evening of awards, accolades and celebration to conclude the 2021 championship season, where over $40,000 in awards were passed out and special awards were presented.
Honored as series champions were Austin Beers of Northampton, Pa. (Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series); Daryl Lewis, Jr. of Ontario, NY (Race of Champions Sportsman Modified); Tommy Barron of Ontario, NY (Race of Champions Super Stock); Andrew Lewis, Jr., of Ontario, NY (Race of Champions “Rocket Performance” 602 Sportsman Modified) and Bob Palmer of Buffalo, NY (Race of Champions FOAR Score Four Cylinder Dash Series).
“The way this season worked out for us was incredible,” stated Beers, accepting his first Race of Champions Modified Series championship, as the youngest driver in Series history to accomplish this. “I have a great team with my Dad as the crew chief, along with Dave and Laura DeLange as the car owners. This is a great Series. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and we are going to enjoy this.”
Point fund contributions come from Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Lucas Oil, Presque Isle Downs & Casino, US Army, Colton RV, Presque Isle Downs and Casino and TDH Refrigeration.
Several others received special recognition, in addition to recognizing the accomplishments of all, for an entire season of passion and dedication.
Point fund contributions come from Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Lucas Oil, Presque Isle Downs & Casino, Wilbert’s U-Pull It, FX Caprara, Waddell Communications Colton RV, Presque Isle Downs and Casino and TDH Refrigeration.
Speed Sport presented the Most Popular Driver Awards. Beers (Modifieds); Andy Lewis of Ontario, NY (Sportsman); Evan Rygielski of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Super Stock); Alyssa Leaty of Williamson, NY (Rocket Performance 602 Sportsman) and Alyssa Montgomery of Ontario, NY (FOAR Score Four Cylinder Dash Series) were all named most popular in their respective division.
Special awards were presented to Barb Holmes of Lockport, NY received the FOAR (Friends of Auto-Racing) Score Fan Club Race of Champions Community Recognition award, with a $500 donation to the Breast Cancer Awareness in Rochester, NY in Holmes’ name as well her receiving a special Series dedication award recognizing her behind the scenes efforts with the series. Tracy Thompson-Reilly of Cheektowaga, NY received a second FOAR (Friends of Auto-Racing) Score Fan Club Race of Champions Community Recognition award, with a $500 donation to G/A Services for Foster Children and her efforts with them and Kid’s RoC.
Sean Verwys of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Cameron Ruggerio of Lancaster, NY picked up their Rookie of the Year Awards.
For anyone receiving a point fund award, if you opt not to attend the awards banquet, your point fund award will be presented at the first scheduled event for your division in 2022.
Western New York racing announcer, the voice of the Race of Champions, Buffalo Bandits sideline reporter and WGR Radio 550 radio show host, Dave Buchanan of Depew, NY, performed as the Master of Ceremonies.
