Mountain Creek Speedway owners and promoters, Adam and Rebecca Stewart in conjunction with race weekend sponsor, Ed Watkins Marine are putting up additional money for a back row challenge in both the Beginner Box Stock and Box Stock divisions this weekend, June 12th for the second annual Ed Watkins Marine Weekend of Speed. The pole sitter can elect to start at the rear for a chance to win additional $100 on top of $200 if the driver can win the race. If the driver refuses, second will get the the option up to fifth starting spot.
“I’m really excited to be apart of the Front Row Challenge format for the second annual Ed Watkins Marine Weekend of Speed! It’s puts the spot light on the kids and makes it exciting for them with some added bonus money,” an excited Ed Watkins explained. “It’s going to make for a wild two days of racing action. Everyone wants to see the fast guys go to the back and try to drive up through the field. It’s something the fans love to see. We wanted to give that opportunity to a young driver and additionally throwing in some extra money only adds to the excitement.”
“It’s funny how it all happened.” said Adam Stewart. “Someone suggested it on a social media and Ed called me to ask if that would add to the weekend. I thought it was a great idea so we just ran with it.” Ed Watkins Marine is located at 3333 NC-16 Business in Denver, NC. The Watkins family competes at Mountain Creek Speedway with son, Rhylen Watkins in the Box Stock division.
Gates will open for the second annual Ed Watkins Marine Weekend of Speed Saturday, June, 11th for flat kart racers at 3pm with practice beginning at 5pm. Sunday outlaw kart competition will see gates open at 12:30pm with practice beginning at 3pm Those who can’t attend can tune in live on mountaincreekspeedway.tv When the track isn’t racing, it’s busy Monday through Friday with testing and practice sessions for everything from flat karts to national midgets. The track will also be available for testing and practice days throughout the year.
