Jankowiak, King, Hoch, Brunka, and Wollaber Collect Checkered Flags

LANCASTER, NY (July 23, 2022) … It was Front Line Workers Recognition Night at Lancaster Motorplex Saturday night, and victory lane was visited by familiar faces. Garrett Zacharias from Vestal, NY won the New York Super Stock Series feature event.  Andy Jankowiak from Tonawanda, NY won his second Sportsman feature of the season. Eldon King III from Freedom, NY won his third Late Model feature of the season. Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY won his third Street Stock feature of the season.  David Brunka from Cheektowaga, NY pulled away to earn the 4 Cylinder feature win, his 11th career Lancaster victory. Dave Wollaber from North Tonawanda, NY won the Mighty TQ Midgets feature for his first win of 2022. 

TJ Cochrane and Jake Christman were on the front row for round four of the 2022 New York Super Stock Series season, with Cochrane showing the way ahead of Christman, Garrett Zacharias, and Ryan Lagoda. Zacharias would take over second on lap two, with Lagoda moving into third place, Jacob Gustafson, and Christman racing in the top five. Zacharias would battle with Cochrane for several laps with Lagoda closing in on the lead duo. The leaders would encounter lap traffic, allowing Zacharias, Lagoda, Gustafson, and Christman to reel them in. Gustafson would take over third place on lap 21, just as Zacharias would take over the lead down the back straightaway on lap 22. Jacob Gustafson would close in on TJ Cochrane for second. Jason Duke Sr spun exiting turn two to bring out the caution on lap 27. On the restart, Zacharias would continue to show the way ahead of Cochrane, with Gustafson racing in third place. Jake Christman would battle with Gustafson for third place on lap 40 and would take over third with nine laps remaining. Christman would then reel in Cochrane for second place with five laps remaining. Zacharias would drive away to pick up the victory.

Dave Kozlowski and Tony Carbone were on the front row for the 30-lap Sportsman feature, with Carbone showing the way. Bobby Weber would take second away and would start to go after race leader Carbone. Andy Jankowiak would take over second on lap eight, prior to an Andy Nye spin in turn four. Jankowiak would take over the lead on the restart, with Jake Lutz moving into second on lap 12. The caution would wave once again on lap 13 as Cameron Ruggiero and Todd Lorenzo got together in turn four. Lutz would challenge Jankowiak for the lead, with George Skora III racing in third place. Trevor Catalano would take over fourth from Carbone on lap 24. Jankowiak would go on to score the win, his second of the season.

Dave Heitzhaus and Danny Knoll Jr set the pace for the Late Models, with Heitzhaus showing the way. Eldon King III took over the lead on lap five and would pull away from the field. Sam Fullone would take over second from Heitzhaus and would start to reel in King for the lead. King would pull away to earn his third win of the season.

Frank Prell and Tim Welshans were on the front row for the Street Stock feature event, with Welshans showing the way. Mark Hoch would take second and would go after Welshans for the lead. Mark Hoch would take over the point on lap three, with Rich Sharpe and Dave Krawczyk racing in third and fourth place respectively. Sharpe would take over second from Tim Welshans on lap nine, with Krawczyk taking over third place on lap 10. Hoch would drive away to score his third win of the season. Rich Sharpe would finish second and Dave Krawczyk would round out the podium finishers.

Ryan Hessler and Hunter McKay were on the front row for the 4 Cylinder feature, with third-place starter Dan Dressel taking over the lead. Charles Palmer would take over the lead from Dressel on lap three and would bring teammate David Brunka with him to take over second. Brunka would take over the lead on lap five. Brunka would pull away to earn his 11th career win at Lancaster.

Brendan Wallace and Brian Schulz brought the Mighty TQ Midgets to the green flag for their main event, with divisional rookie Brendan Wallace showing the way. Off an early race caution, Dave Wollaber and Nick Groff would battle for second place with Wallace still showing the way. Wollaber would take over second on lap three and by lap five, would take over the lead. Nick Groff would take second away and would start to challenge Wollaber. Kyle Hutchinson would take second and would go after Wollaber with five laps remaining. Wollaber would hold off Hutch to score his 31st career TQ Midget win at Lancaster. 

Front Line Workers Recognition Night was presented by First Out Rescue Equipment, 10-75 Emergency Vehicles LLC of WNY, JJ Supply of North Carolina, Whelen Engineering, and the New York Army National Guard.

Racing returns on Saturday, August 13 for the Ol Boy Cup VI featuring the Race of Champions Modified Series. The Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and Mighty TQ Midgets will round out the racing card. Racing will begin at 6:30 pm with pit gates opening at 2 pm and practice getting underway at 4:30 pm. As always, kids 12 and under can sign up at the picnic tables upon entering the facility to participate in the Big Wheel Races that takes place during intermission.
