Riverhead, NY Aug. 5th
By Bob Finan
Saturday August 13th the tradition of celebrating our great United States of America continues at Riverhead Raceway with Connie Partridge & Tom Gatz presenting I Love America Night. A good ole county fair atmosphere will fill the air with a huge Fireworks spectacular, 4/6-Cylinder Demolition Derby and a Kids Big Wheel Race complementing the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series stock car action.
Six NASCAR events will be presented highlighted by a 50-lap NASCAR Modified feature event with the chase for the 2022 track title hitting the homestretch. Kyle Soper of Manorville the defending champion seeking his fourth championship over the past five years has plenty of talented drivers trying to prevent that from happening. Dave Brigati of Calverton, John Beatty Jr. of Merrick, Chris Young of Calverton and Dylan Slepain of Dix Hills are just a few of Soper’s challengers. The Figure Eights, INEX Legends, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and a 8-Cylinder Enduro join the NASCAR Modifieds on the race card.
Upon the completion of opening ceremonies a Kids Big Wheel Race unfolds with kids racing down towards the start/finish line from turn four. The winning girl and the winning boy competitors get to keep their Big Wheel. The second Fireworks spectacular of 2022 is the highlight of the I Love America program and is sure to thrill young and old alike. The program concludes with the seasons first Demolition Derby. In a weather related oddity, the first two scheduled Demolition Derby contests of 2022 had been rained out.
Spectator gates will open at 4:00 pm, opening ceremonies are planned for approximately 6:00 pm. Adults are $30, kids 6-12 $15, 5 & under free.
