WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. ~ In a Modified stock car 40-lap feature race that went without cautions from start to finish, Eddie McCarthy of Brick raced to victory after a race long fight for first. It was the Brick resident’s second win of the 2022 campaign.
After several caution plagued races in recent weeks, the Modifieds settled down for this one as McCarthy jumped to the lead early and fought off Carsten DiGiantomasso of Jackson. Fellow Jackson resident Blake Barney ran third in the early going before point race leader Andrew Krause of Holmdel slipped into third on lap five.
For the remainder of the distance the top three raced in tight formation with lapped traffic adding to the challenge at the half way point. At the checker it was McCarthy, DiGiantomasso, Krause, Jackson’s Kyle Scisco and Derek Hopkinson of Toms River completing the top five.
“The car a rocket right from the start and it was nice to go the distance non-stop,” McCarthy said. “It was great to win because all my family and friends are here tonight. I’m especially happy to win for my dad. He makes all this happen and he was in the hospital with some issues recently. He is doing better now and I hope the win makes him feel even better!”
Elliot Wohl of Beachwood jumped to the lead early and went on to win the companion 25 lap race for the Factory Stocks over Manchester’s Scott Riggleman who raced from mid pack for second. Tuckerton’s Robert Stack, Bryan O’Shea of Neptune City and Howell’s Brian Osborn completed the top five.
Brick’s Robert Sutphin survived a last lap restart to win the 25-lap Sportsman main event. Former champ Kevin Davison was an ever challenging second, with the returning Chris Silvestri of Hazlet, Jarret DiGiantomasso of Jackson and Neil Rutt III of Colts Neck finishing third through fifth.
Mike Lavery of Orangeburg, N.Y. raced though the field to take the lead on lap 14 and went on to win the 25-lapper for the Fast 4 Cars. Wall’s Alex Graetz, Burlington’s Alonzo Morales, Nicole Razzano of Cookstown and point leader Sean Vuksanic of Wall rounded out the top five.
Howie Conk of Freehold won his fifth Limited Late Model feature race over Daryn Miller of Long Island and Wall’s TJ Graves.
