GEORGETOWN, DE – Snapping droughts.
Billy Pauch Jr. and Amanda Robinson both snapped long winless droughts at Georgetown Speedway in the ‘Deron Rust Memorial’ on Thursday night.
Frenchtown, N.J.’s Billy Pauch Jr. led all 25 laps of the Millman’s NAPA Modified feature for his first Georgetown Speedway win since 2021 and a $3,960 payday.
The ‘Kid’s Kid’ fired from the third starting position, but worked by the front row of Brandon Grosso and Danny Bouc on the opening lap and led the entire way in the non-stop affair.
Bouc ran second throughout the race, having moments where it seemed he was closing in on Pauch Jr. in the lead, but never got close enough to offer a serious challenge.
The win for Pauch Jr. was the 10th of his career in the Millman’s NAPA Modified division at Georgetown, and his first in his self-owned Kid Racing No. 1 machine.
“Funniest part of the night… I had to move my parking spot tonight,” Pauch Jr. laughed. “The kid I parked next to came over after the Crate (602 Sportsman) feature and told me to run the bottom of one and two, and the top of three and four.
“That was the difference,” he surmised.
Bouc, of Pipersville, Pa., settled for the runner-up position and Covington Township, Pa.’s Alex Yankowski completed the podium after starting in ninth.
Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown came home fourth and Schnecksville, Pa.’s Tanner Van Doren rounded out the top five.
Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Federalsburg, Md.’s Austin Hubbard; Georgetown, Del.’s Carson Wright; Bohemia, N.Y.’s Dillon Steuer; Birdsboro, Pa.’s John Willman, who received the Ad-Art Sign Co. $250 PA/NJ Spec bonus; and Freemansburg, Pa.’s Thomas Solderich.
Georgetown, Del.’s Amanda Robinson, meanwhile, claimed her first Stockley Tavern Speed & Supply Super Late Model at Georgetown Speedway since 2018.
Robinson, whose time behind the wheel dwindled to help her husband Ross chase the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in a crew chief role.
She still races on occasions in Southern Delaware, and finally returned to Victory Lane at Georgetown Speedway.
“I knew I had to calm down and just make sure I was there to make my move when I could,” Robinson explained. “I was talking to myself just trying to keep the car underneath me.”
Robinson made the pass for the lead on Donald Lingo on lap six and led the final 14 laps in dominant fashion to pick up the $3,000 victory.
Lingo held on for the runner-up spot, with Trever Feathers, Trevor Collins, and Jamie Lathroum completed the top five.
James Hill raced from the ninth starting position in a non-stop Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman feature for his first career Georgetown Speedway win worth $1,396.
Hill raced by both Michael White and Matt Smith in turns three and four on lap 12 and set sail to win by over eight seconds.
Matt Smith, Adam White, Richie Walls Jr., and Michael White rounded out the top five.
Cale Pettyjohn inherited the lead with five laps to go after Garrit Reagan broke and led the rest of the way for the Southern Delaware Vintage Late Model victory.
Chris Killen claimed the Southern Delaware Vintage Modified win with a fifth-place overall finish.
Robert Smith made a late race charge to pick up the Delaware Super Truck 12-lap feature win.
Smith passed T.J. Williams on the final lap to pick up his fourth win of the season from the eighth starting position. Williams was second, and Steve Portillo rounded out the podium.
Joe Waters took the lead on lap three of the Feebs Distilling Delmarva Charger feature and appeared well on his way to a comfortable victory before a late race caution brought Jay Lowman up to his back bumper.
Waters, however, held off Lowman for the victory, with Lowman holding second and Robbie Strain completing the top five.
Next up at Georgetown Speedway, the Mid-Atlantic Sprint Car Series joins the program on Friday, July 19. The winged 305 Sprint Cars join the Millman’s NAPA Modifieds racing for $3,000 in a 25-lap affair. Joining the Modifieds and Sprint Cars will be the Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman, First State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models, Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Little Lincolns, Delaware Super Trucks, and the Feebs Distilling Delmarva Chargers.
Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
