(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway’s Street Stock division took center stage on Friday, June 28 with their lone extra distance feature event of the 2024 season, the Midstate Site Development 30. Travis Hydar was the big winner of the night, collecting his fifth win of the 2024 season in the MSD 30. Other feature winners on the night included Troy Talman in the SK Modified® feature, Chris Meyer in the Late Model feature, Tyler Chapman in the SK Light feature, and Matt Winter, II in the Limited Late Model feature.
In the 30-lap Midstate Site Development Street Stock event, Chris Danielczuk streaked into the lead at the green flag with Marvin Minkler taking second. Travis Hydar was on the move early on and he took second on lap-4. Ryan Waterman was also on the move in the early laps as he followed Hydar through traffic and was now third. Tyler Trott was fourth with Minkler in fifth.
Hydar took the lead from Danielczuk on lap-8 and the top-5 was now Hydar, Danielczuk, Waterman, Trott, and Travis Downey. Jeff Asselin was sixth with Johnny Walker, Jason Raymond, Brandon Warren, and Minkler making up the top-10 at the half way point of the race. Danielczuk spun in turn 4 and collected the car of Walker to bring the caution flag out with 11 laps complete.
Hydar took the lead back under green with Waterman right behind him in second. Trott was up to third with Asselin in fourth and Downey in fifth. Downey took fourth from Asselin on lap-15 while Hydar and Waterman were starting to pull away from Trott in third. Matt Martel came to a stop in turn 2 to bring the caution flag out with 20 laps complete.
Hydar and Waterman resumed their duel for the lead on the restart with the two cars touching several times, but Hydar was able to maintain the lead with Waterman behind him in second. Downey was up to third with Trott in fourth and Jason Lafayette went by Asselin to take fifth place on lap-23. Jason Raymond dropped off the pace on lap-23 and brought his car to pit road, done for the evening.
Waterman couldn’t get close enough to Hydar to make a bid for the lead as Hydar scored his fifth win of the 2024 season. Downey finished third with Trott and Lafayette rounding out the top-5.
In the 40-lap SK Modified® event, Steven Chapman took the lead at the green flag but the caution came out with 1 lap complete for RJ Marcotte, who spun in turn 2.
Chapman took the lead on the restart with Troy Talman taking second. Dylan Kopec was third in line with Mikey Flynn in fourth and David Arute in fifth. Owen took fifth from Arute on lap-3 while Flynn took third from Kopec on lap-4. Owen and Kopec touched going into turn 2 with both of them getting into the wall and collecting the cars of Arute, and George Bessette, Jr. to bring the caution flag back out with 4 laps complete.
Talman used a good run on the outside of Chapman to move into the lead on the restart. Chapman worked his way back to Talman’s inside on lap-6 and he retook the lead. Behind the two leaders, Austin Beers was wheel to wheel with Flynn for third with Andrew Molleur up to fifth. Arute came to a stop in turn 1 while Curt Brainard spun in turn 4 to brin the caution flag back out with 8 laps complete.
Talman dove to the inside of Chapman on the restart to move into the lead. Flynn was third behind Talman and Chapman with Michael Gervais, Jr. taking fourth and Michael Christopher, Jr. took fifth from Beers. Flynn took second from Chapman on lap-15 and that move allowed Christopher to move into third and drop Chapman from second back to fourth with Gervais in fifth while Talman continued to lead the race. The caution came back out with 20 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Arute.
The restart saw a huge pileup in turn 3 invoving Tyler Barrry, Marcotte, Noah Korner, Todd Owen, and Anthony Flannery to bring the caution right back out before a lap could be completed.
Talman took the lead on the next restart with Gervais and Christopher going wheel to wheel for second. Molleur was fourth in line with Keith Rocco up to fifth. Gervais got clear into second on lap-25 with Molleur now wheel to wheel with Christopher for third as Talman continued to lead. Gervais was applying heavy pressure to Talman’s back bumper, but Talman was able to hold him off and maintain the lead.
Molleur made a move to the inside of Gervais on lap-34 to move into second and set his sights on Talman for the race lead. Christopher followed Molleur by Gervais to drop Gervais back to fourth. Christopher took second from Molleur on lap-37 and immediately began to apply heavy pressure to Talman. Christopher pulled to the outside of Talman as the cars took the white flag but he came up just short at the checkered flag as Talman scored his second win of the 2024 season. Molleur finished third with Gervais and Rocco rounding out the top-5.
In the 30-lap Late Model feature event, Tom Fearn took the early lead at the drop of the green flag with Tom Butler right behind him in second. Chris Meyer was third in line with Chris Buffone fourth and Alexandra Fearn in fifth. Buffone began to slide backwards as Paul Varricchio, Jr. moved into fourth and Alexandra Fearn took fifth as Tom Fearn, Butler, and Meyer continued to hold down the top-3 positions. The caution came out with 9 laps complete for debris on the track.
Tom Fearn took the lead on the restart while Varricchio nearly spun in front of the field coming through turn 4 but he was able to keep his car straight and only lost 3 spots as Meyer took second, Wayne Coury, Jr. third, and Alexandra Fearn fourth with Varricchio fifth. Butler spun in turn 2 as did Kevin Gambacorta, P.J. Zarrella, and Wayne Coury, Sr. to bring the caution back out with 12 laps complete.
Tom Fearn took the lead back under green with Coury and Meyer racing door to door for second. Varricchio was fourth in line with Darrel Keane now up to fifth. Meyer and Coury ran door to door for four laps before Meyer got clear into second place behind Tom Fearn. Meyer and Tom Fearn touched in turn 1 on lap-19 with Fearn drifting up the track and Meyer moving into the lead. Coury moved into second with Varricchio third, Keane fourth, and Cliff Saunders fifth. Fearn slipped all the way back to ninth place after leading the first 18 laps of the race.
With 5 laps to go it was still Meyer in the lead with Coury and Varricchio right behind him in second and third. Keane and Cliff Saunders made up the top-5 with Gambacorta, Al Saunders, Bobby Stirk, III, Andrew Durand, and Tom Fearn making up the top-10.
Meyer led Coury and Varricchio to the checkered flag to pick up his first Late Model win of the 2024 season. Keane finished fourth with Gambacorta rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap SK Light feature event, the field took the green flag with a Talladega style pileup of cars involving Austin Goff, Amanda West, Chris Viens, Norm Sears, Paul Arute, Bob Charland, Carsten Cole, Casey Vogt, Anthony Forino, and Robert Bloxsom, III.
Contact between Ron Midford, Jr. and Nick Anglace sent both cars spinning through the frontstretch grass on the next restart to again bring the caution flag out before a lap could be completed.
Meg Fuller took the lead on the restart with Alexander Pearl taking second. Nickolas Hovey went to the outside of Pearl on lap-2 and took over second place. Tyler Chapman was right behind Hovey in the outside lane looking to take third from Pearl when the caution came back out with 3 laps complete for a spin in turn 2 by Carsten Cole.
The race went back to green with Hovey taking the lead from Fuller. The field completed one lap before spins by both Goff and David Webb brought the caution back out with 4 laps complete.
Hovey took the lead back under green with Pearl taking second. Chapman and Fuller were side by side for third with Sami Anderson in fifth. Pearl made a move to the inside of Hovey to take over the lead on lap-6 and Chapman was now wheel to wheel with Hovey for second with Fuller and Anderson behind them. Chapman dove to the inside of Pearl on lap-8 and took the lead by a nose at the line. The caution came back out with 9 laps complete for a spin in turn 4 by Wade Gagner.
Chapman took the lead on the restart with Hovey and Pearl going wheel to wheel for second. Fuller was fourth with Jason Chapman up to fifth. Pearl got clear of Hovey for second on lap-12 as Chapman continued to lead. Hovey and Pearl touched and spun in turn 2 to bring the caution flag back out with 14 laps complete.
The field completed one more lap under green with Tyler Chapman in the led before the caution came back out for Fuller, who came to a stop in turn 3 with damage to her car and Stephen Kalogiannis spun in turn 1.
Tyler Chapman took the lead on the restart with Brian Sullivan charging into second. Jason Chapman was third with Anderson in fourth and Chris Matthews fifth. A multi car spin in turn 1 Paul Arcari, West, Glenn Bartkowski, and Vogt brought the caution flag back out with 17 laps complete.
Sullivan went door to door with Tyler Chapman for the lead on the restart with Matthews in third. Peter Bennett was up to fourth with Anglace in fifth. Chapman and Sullivan ran the final 3 laps wheel to wheel with Chapman taking the checkered flag by a half car length in front of Sullivan to pick up his fourth win of the season. Matthews finished third with Bennett and Jason Chapman rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, Matt Winter, II and Jeremy Lavoie brought the field to the green flag with Winter taking the early lead in front of Lavoie. Gary Patnode quickly took third behind the two leaders with Devon Jencik fourth and Rich Hammann took fifth place. Lavoie took the lead from Winter on lap-3 but Winter came right back to the inside of Lavoie with a crossover move on lap-4 to regain the lead. Devon Jencik followed Winter by Lavoie to move into second and drop Lavoie back to third with Hammann now fourth and Adrien Paradis, III up to fifth.
At the halfway point it was still Winter in the lead with Jencik, Hammann, Lavoie, and Paradis all giving chase. Kyle Theriault was sixth followed by Matt Clement, R.J. Surdell, Gary Patnode, and Kevin Crosby. Paradis was all over the back bumper of Lavoie looking to take the fourth spot while the lead trio of Winter, Jencik, and Hammann were starting to stretch out their advantage over Lavoie and Paradis.
Hammann was now applying heavy pressure to Jencik’s back bumper with 3 laps to go and he made the move into second on lap-19. Jencik went right back by Hammann to retake second on the final lap, but neither of them could catch up to Winter, who scored his first career Limited Late Model feature victory. Lavoie held off Paradis to the line to round out the top-5.
