WALL, NJ ~ SMAC Supermodfified race car driver grabbed the $5,000 victory in the Jersey Jet 50 lap race in front of a large Saturday night grandstand crowd at Wall Stadium Speedway. The win, in the first Supermodified race at the third mile high banked paved oval in 20 years, earned the Pelhem, NH veteran $5,000.

Stephen Duphily was the first leader of the event but George Helliwell and his younger brother Bill were never far out of the pictiure. A lap 11 restart after the second of just two caution flaggs, gave George Helliwell the chance he needed to dive to the inside lane to take the lead. Duphily then chased Helliwell through the halfway mark before Bill Helliwell slipped into second.

Duphily then chased the Helliwell brothers to the winner’s checker flag dodging lapped traffic much of the time Matt Riley and DaveHelliwell comp;leted the top five.

“This place was built for rocket ships and we had a rocket tonight,” Helliwell said in the winner’s circle. “I have to thank everyone involved for getting our tour here and I hope we can come back again!”

Rob Anderton of Howell battled his dad Bob Anderton early before taking the lead for good in the companion 50-lapper for the Factory Stocks. The race was slowed only once when Shanon Mongeau of Island Heights and Freehold’s Jared Okerson tangled on the front stretch while battling for a top five spot.

At the checker flag Scott Riggleman of Manchester finished an impressive second after slipping in the rundown early. Bryan O’Shea of Neptune City, Manahawkin’s Robert stack and Logan Fraser of Toms River wrapped up the top five.

Mike Alcaro of Milford raced to his third win of the year in the 40 lapper for the Legend Cars. Alcaro took the lead on lap eight and was never headed. Ryan MacConnell, early leader Anthony Marsh, Justin Teresak and Jack Gerzabek completed the top five.

The mighty Quinn Trimmer of Lavallette was in contention the entire distance, but when Robert Sutphin and Chris Silvestri tangled while fighting for first on the closing lap Trimmer was able to race to his first ever Sportsman 25-lap win. Billy Both, Kevin Davison, Sean Vuksanic and Kenny Reaves were second through fifth.
