LANCASTER, N.Y. (July 13, 2024) – George Skora III from Eden, NY used an upfront starting position to take the lead away on lap three and never looked back, going on to score the $4,000 payday in the 40-lap event for the Lancaster Modifieds at Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday night.Shawn Nye from Lancaster, NY won the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman main event. Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY won the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stock feature. Dave Wollaber from North Tonawanda, NY won the Mighty TQ Midgets feature. Chris Deyoe Jr from East Otto, NY picked up the win in the 4 Cylinders.
Alan Bookmiller and Sean Verwys were on the front row for the Lancaster Tour-Type Modified feature event, with Bookmiller leading Skora, Timmy, Jeremy Haudricourt, and Austin Beers racing in the top five. Skora would take the lead away on lap three. Timmy Catalano would take over second from Bookmiller on lap four, as Amy Catalano battled Austin Beers for fifth place. Beers would take over third place on lap 11, as Skora and Timmy Catalano were pulling away from the field. Jake Lutz started 12th on the grid following the redraw, and by lap 13, passed Alan Bookmiller to take over fourth place. Lutz used a lap car to pass Beers to move into third on lap 18. Lutz proved to have the fastest car on the track, as he quickly caught and battled Timmy Catalano for second place at the race’s halfway mark. Lutz would pass Catalano with 11 laps remaining, as Beers would catch Catalano and would battle for third place. Skora would drive on to his second career Modified victory at Lancaster, and first since August 19, 2017.
Alan Bookmiller and Andrew Nye brought the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman to the green flag for their 30-lap feature event, with Bookmiller in the lead ahead of George Skora III, Nye, Mike Fiebelkorn Jr, and Shawn Nye. Skora would take the lead away on lap seven, but Bookmiller would reclaim the lead just one lap later. The first caution of the event would take place on lap 17 as Mike Fiebelkorn Jr spun in turn three. On the restart, Shawn Nye would pass both Skora and Bookmiller to take over the lead. Tommy Catalano would take over third on lap 19, with Trevor Catalano moving into fourth place. Tommy Catalano would take over second on lap 21 and would set his sights on race leader Shawn Nye. The caution would come out on lap 25 as Cory Grenzy came to a stop on the back straightaway. Trevor Catalano would take over second following the restart. Nye would hold off Trevor and Tommy Catalano to score the feature win.
Gary Bartella and Tim Welshans led the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks to the green flag for their 20-lap main event, with Bartella showing the way. Welshans would take over the lead on lap five, with Kyle Schosek challenging Bartella for second place. Schosek would take over second on lap eight, with Dave Johnson and Mark Hoch racing in the top five. After a mid-race caution, Dave Johnson would apply the pressure to Tim Welshans for the lead. Johnson would complete the pass on lap 13, with Mark Hoch taking over second place. Hoch would take the lead away from Johnson with five laps remaining. Hoch would hold off Dustin Novoa, Nik Welshans, Johnson, and Tommy Wentland.
Carl Schroeder and Brendan Wallace were on the front row for the Mighty TQ Midgets feature event, with Schroeder in the lead. Ronnie Flaim would take over second and was followed by Dave Wollaber. Flaim would take over the lead on lap five as Wollaber would take over second place. Wollaber would take the lead away on lap six. With Wollaber in the lead, the race was on for second between Brendan Wallace and Vinnie Christiano III. Wollaber would hold off Wallace and Christiano III to score the win, his 37th of his career at Lancaster.
Mikey Place and Andy Danielwicz brought the 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their 20-lap event, with Place showing the way. Chris Deyoe Jr would take over second and would challenge Place for the lead, and would complete the pass on lap three. Deyoe would drive on to score the feature win.
Racing returns to Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, July 20 for a Saturday night showdown featuring the Late Models and Super Stocks, plus Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks, and the 4 Cylinders. Pit Gates will open at 2pm, with grandstand gates opening at 4pm, and racing getting underway at 6pm.
