WALL, NJ ~ After sitting out of Wall Stadium Modified stock car competition for over two months, Jimmy Blewett returned to win Saturday night’s 40 lap main event wire-to-wire. It was the Howell veteran’s first win of the year and the 88th Modified victory of his career here.

The race program was presented despite the fact that afternoon showers drenched the third mile paved oval.

Although Blewett and Jackson’s Steven Reed started on the front row, this race offered thrills from start to finish as Reed continually taunted Blewett while Milltown’s Derek Hopkinson and Wall’s Tyler Ferris fought for third much of the way.

After the race was slowed on lap 25 for a spinning car, the restart served up a front stretch six car crash to slow the action for the second and final time. Pine Hill’s Joey Merlino, Holmdel’s Andrew Krause and Jackson;s Kyle Scisco appeared to get the worst of the mishap.

Blewett then fought off Reed to the finish, with Hopkinson third, Jackson’s Blake Barney slipping into fourth and Ferris fifth.

Shannon Mongeau of Island Heights used an outside lane lap 21 pass to win the Factory Stock 25 lap race. The father son team of Bob and Rob Anderton, both of Howell, were second and third with Scott Riggleman of Manchester and Freehold’s Jared Okerson, fifth.

Point leader Kevin Davison of Howell won the 25 lap Sportsman main event from lap two on to grab his second win of the year. Jonathan Laureigh of Lanoka Harbor grabbed second in the closing moments with Chris Silvestri of Hazlet third. Billy Both of Rahway and Quinn Trimmer of Lavallette wrapped up the top five.

Wall’s Joe Pressey led the 25 lap race for the Fast 4 cars from start to finisbh for his first career win. Josh Barry, Alonzo Morales, TJ Graves and Ian Ashford, were second through fifth.

James Moorman of Jackson, the 2023 Limited Late Model champion, won his first main event in the class’ 25 lapper when the majority of the field crashed on the front stretch and the race was called official. Brian Doyle, Michelle Moorman, Ray Minieri and Pat Brown were credited with second through fifth.

The 2024 Wall Stadium Speedway season continues on Saturday night, August 24, with the Modifieds racing in the 127 lap Cliff Krause Memorial. Factory Stocks, Legend Cars and TQ Midgets will also be in action. Qualifying is at 5:15 p.m. with main events starting at 7:00 p.m.
