Naples, ME & Barre, VT — The beautiful Sunoco World Series weekend ahead can only be truly complete with the ground-pounding thunder of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on the Thompson Speedway highbanks! The Sunoco World Series 150 presented by FloRacing brings an epic conclusion to the 62nd Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing alongside the annual return of the NEMA Lites, the Pro Truck Challenge and the track championship events for the Thompson Street Stocks and the AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds!
A three man race atop the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour standings are each staring down the final three-race stretch in the championship chase. Thompson Speedway serves as the final home ground event on the schedule before the Tour heads South to the rain-delayed North Wilkesboro event and the Martinsville Speedway championship event and all three drivers at the head of the line can claim Thompson as an advantage.
Current point leader Ron Silk and runner-up Justin Bonsignore have had their fair share of success on the Thompson highbanks, each team packed to the hilt with notes on tire strategy and long-distance adjustments while each driver knows exactly how to claim the big Sunoco World Series win! Just sixteen points out of the money in third overall is Patrick Emerling, August’s midweek Thompson 150 winner who has won three out of the last four events to climb the pylon with three events remaining in 2024. The Sunoco World Series 150 presented by FloRacing is sure to be do or die in the hunt for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title!
‘Leadfoot’ Larry Barnett leads the popular Thompson Street Stock division into their track championship event on Sunday. Last year’s runner-up Ryan Waterman sits just four points back and is chomping at the bit to crown himself a Thompson Speedway champion while Icebreaker winner Al Stone III has kept it consistent all summer long to sit just six points out of the money for Sunoco World Series Sunday! The Worcester, Massachusetts-based law offices of Eden Rafferty will once again add their bonus cash to the Street Stocks with the division’s championship race now paying $650 to win on Sunday!
The AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds have been the Tyler Chapman show from the get-go with six wins in seven events. Chapman has already sewed up the championship but is sure to face stiff competition when it comes to the final win of the season, especially on Sunoco World Series weekend. Meg Fuller would love nothing more than to win back-to-back World Series victories in the SK Lights while John O’Sullivan is just as hungry to take the ‘W’ before the end of the season!
Perennial title contender Randy Cabral stands atop the NEMA Lite standings as the historic association returns to Sunoco World Series weekend at Thompson. Kyle Valari is Cabral’s closest competition 24-points back and will need to do all he can to chase down the multi-time champion with just two events left on the 2024 calendar.
While the Pro Truck Challenge will contest their rain-delayed Icebreaker event on Friday, it’s currently a one-point split between point leader Todd Taylor and longtime campaigner Randy Burr. The Sunoco World Series twin bill could do a lot to shake-up the standings with just one event left to decide the champion.
Thompson Speedway closes out the 2024 season with the 62nd Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing starting on Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13. The annual three-day festival of stock car racing on the Thompson highbanks will feature a taste of everything the Northeast has to offer including high-stakes regional racing courtesy of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, American-Canadian Tour and Pro All Stars Series along with track championship finales and more! Sunday only General Admission is available at $45 for adults, $15 for kids 12-6 with children five and under free all three days of Sunoco World Series weekend! Sunday only pit admission is available to adults for $50 and $25 for kids 12 and under.
