OSWEGO, NY (May 1, 2025) – The 2025 Jake’s Automotive Small Block Super Championship Series will launch its new season next Saturday, May 10, at Evans Mills Raceway Park, marking the first of two scheduled appearances at the 3/8-mile Northern New York oval. The series also returns to Evans Mills later this season as part of the 6th annual John Burr Classic Weekend in September.
Backed once again by returning supporters Jake’s Automotive and Ultimate QM, the series also welcomes new backing from RCC Carburetors in 2025. Together, they are offering a healthy purse and several contingency awards for the Evans Mills opener, including $1,000 to win and a minimum of $200 to start the main event. Each heat race winner will receive a $50 bonus courtesy of Ultimate QM, while RCC will present a $100 award to the highest-finishing car using one of their carburetors and an additional $50 to the quickest RCC-equipped car in the feature.
A solid field of talent is expected for the season opener, including several drivers who have found success at both Oswego Speedway and Evans Mills. Among them is Dan Kapuscinski, a 13-time SBS winner at Oswego and the 2021 and 2022 track champion, who picked up a series win at the Mills in 2023. Greg O’Connor, a five-time Oswego feature winner, scored his first career Evans Mills victory in last September’s Burr Classic event and will surely be a frontrunner next weekend. 2012 Classic Champion Cameron Rowe, a veteran of the SBS class and 2024 Oswego feature winner, has multiple top-five finishes at the Mills and is slated to contend once again.
The field also includes 2023 SBS track champion Noah Ratcliff, who has two career feature wins at Oswego and finished second at Evans Mills in both 2022 and 2023. He’ll be joined by teammate Griffin Miller, who fills in for Drew Pascuzzi in the second Ratcliff Racing entry after earning a feature win last season in the No. 73. Also set to compete is 2024 Pathfinder Bank SBS Rookie of the Year Matt Matteson, returning for another shot at the Mills after a heat win last Fall. AJ Larkin, the 2024 SBS Most Improved Driver, and Brad Haynes, a two-time feature winner in 2019 and 2021, are both in the mix as well.
Robbie Wirth, who has shown strong performances in both SBS and 350 Super competition, will also contend. Vern LaFave, a veteran with years of experience in SBS, 350 Winged Super and Supermodified ranks, will compete for car owner Jeff Carson in the No. 10. Third-year driver Steven Bradshaw will also make the trip north, alongside veteran Darrick Hilton, who will field two cars on Oswego’s May 24 Opening Night, with one entry piloted by his teammate Andy Jodway.
Evans Mills Raceway Park has hosted five SBS Championship Series events since 2022, each delivering exciting, side-by-side racing. The upcoming show on Saturday, May 10, marks the first of two SBS events at the track this season. Fans can look forward to an action-packed night featuring the Small Block Supermodifieds, Modifieds, Pro Late Models, INEX Legends, and Sport Compacts. Pit gates open at 3:00 PM, grandstands open at 5:00 PM, and heat racing begins at 6:00 PM. General admission is $20 for adults, $10 for youth (ages 10 to 17), and free for children 9 and under. Pit passes are available for $35.
