CLAREMONT – N.H. – Guy Caron stormed to victory Friday night at Claremont Motorsports Park, leading the last 29 laps to win the Mike Richardson Memorial main event in the Outlaw Late Models at the Thrasher Road speedplant.

Caron, the reigning Outlaw Late Model division champion, has run only selected races this summer at the third-mile oval but Friday shook the dust off to win the prestigious 50-;lap annual event.

Modified titan Brian Robie made another stop in Country Fuels victory lane Friday, Super Street star Brandon Gray moved to the top of the points chase by rocketing to victory, and Dick LaMotte brought Kyle Templeton’s bid for an unbeaten season to a thud by dominating Friday night’s Mini Stock feature.

In the weekly battle of the giants, Aaron Fellows outgunned Stephen Donahue to win the Tour Type Late Model main event, while Green Mountain Man Kyle Kenny blew away the field in the Pure Stocks, and Carlos Grenier made his usual Friday night stop in Ridge Runner victory lane.

Chris Riendeau blasted off to the early lead in the Richardson Memorial  50-lapper, as a stout field of 13 top competitors went to battle in the main event carried over from last Friday’s rained-out program. Steve Bly and top Outlaw points man Cam Curtis were close behind and would hold those spots until a lap-nine brush-up in turn four sent Bly looping and both to the rear of the field.

That brought 2023 champ Ben Poland and Caron to Riendeau’s bumper, where they battled inches apart, with Caron moving up to second on lap 20 and then soaring through the low groove to lead lap 22 by a wheel. Once in front, the five-time track champion never looked back, opening a huge lead and then holding strong to dash under the checkers four lengths ahead of Riendeau.

With Riendeau an impressive second after earlier topping his heat race, Poland – also a qualifying race winner – finished third, Curtis stormed back through the field to stay atop the points parade with the night’s fourth-place finish.

Brian Robie took the lead from Cole Littlewood on lap two of the Asetex Tire and Auto 604 Modified 35-lapper and never looked back. While Robie opened a huge lead early, the race’s only caution – on lap 19 – brought Littlewood back to his side, with the Bay State hot shoe then keeping Robie within reach until finishing second, just four lengths back, with Littlewood finishing his best run of the summer in the runner-up slot, Tyler Leary was third on the night.

Aaron Fellows and Stephen Donahue have turned identical laps all season in the Tour Type Late Models. Whoever gets to the front first will almost surely win the race, Friday, it was Fellows’ turn.

Taking the lead on a lap-four restart, he then held a three to four-length advantage until the checkers waved. With Donahue Friday night’s bride’s maid, Jaret Curtis, he of the acclaimed Ludlow, Mass, racing Curtis twins, impressed in third.

Bruised and battered just a bit five days earlier, RE Hinkley Fuels Super Street ace Brandon Gray came to Friday’s competition with only one goal in mind; to win and, better yet, to dominate en route to the top of the points parade,

The Thetford, VT star did just that, rocketing up to second behind Joe Tetreault on lap three and then sailing around the top groove to take charge on lap seven and win with ease. Robert Hagar got up for second on lap 13 but on this night had nothing for the speedy Gray.

Veteran pilot Geoff Rollins, making a rare visit to the Thrasher Road oval, impressed in third. Gray’s romp moved him to the top spot in the championship point’s chase entering next Friday’s season finale. Cody Schoolcraft, whose victory five days earlier had placed him in the top spot, struggled to a tenth-place finish Friday.

There will be no undefeated drivers this season at CMP. RaceDay TV Mini Stock ace Kyle Templeton was the last to fall.

Dick LaMotte took the lead from Wally Brown on lap two of Friday’s feature and then took off like a speeding bullet to score his first win the ease. Templeton was a distant second, with steady Pat Houle adding to his trophy collection in third.

Kyle Kenny had a cakewalk in Friday’s Lavalley Building Supply Pure Stock main event. Starting up front alongside Gage Dillingham, he blasted off and never looked back. Kenny’s romp to victory, though, did little to tarnish the championship hopes of top points man Colton Hull.

Hull got up for second on lap four and held strong to stay atop the Pure Stock points parade.Carter Conroy, charging from row three, went home third on the night, with last Sunday;s winner Chris Chambers, from way back in row five, slicing through the field for fourth.

With only a thin field on hand for Friday’s JP’s Trucking Ridge Runner feature, nearly-perfect on the summer Carlos Grenier put another feather in his victory cap, Brianna Buck was second on the night

In a show of support for the beleaguered Claremont school system, CMP fans chipped in with more than $500 Saturday to help boost Stevens High School athletic programs.
