WATERFORD – Drivers descended on the Speedbowl for one final time in 2025 for the Twenty-First running of Smacktoberfest, headlined by the 6th Annual Northeast Street Stock Championship.

Joe Arena led the Open Street Stocks to green for a couple laps until Stafford’s Chris Buffone took over the top spot. Buffone was the fastest of the day thus far but he had to contend with New Hampshire’s Austin Erickson. By lap 10, Erickson worked his way underneath Buffone and started clicking laps away as the leader. Erickson has won a few events in the Crown Vic division, and he was poised to show success in this event. However on lap 20, Keith Rocco in his return to Street Stock competition slipped into second by Buffone who had now been black flagged from the event. Rocco chipped away at Ericksons’ lead and was on his bumper by lap 34, and just 4 laps later he slipped into the lead. The event went green to checker with 17 starters from all walks of Street Stock racing in the northeast, but in the end it was Rocco returning to Street Stock victory lane for the first time since his championship season in 2004.

Skaket Property Management presented the 50-lap Legend Car special event that drew a healthy 23 cars for an event added late in the schedule. Rookie Aubry Wasko led some laps in what looked to be her strongest run of the season during the first handful of circuits. Unfortunately for her, all-time win leader Jason Palmer took his car out for this special event and was first to slip on by on lap 6. A couple cautions allowed Dylan Calabro to get the edge over Palmer, and also allowed both Zachary and Brandon Martinez to work their way towards the front. Brandon took the lead away from Calabro but Zachary made a strong bottom-shot move to take control by lap 19. By this time, PJ Evans climb to the front was starting to pay off. Over the next handful of laps, Zachary and Evans crossed each other over to try and pin the race lead down, until contact with 12 to go sent Evans and Brandon away on the tow truck and Zachary to the rear. Late Model Champion Devin Deshaies shot out to the lead by a large margin, but a three to go caution erased it. Legend Car Champion Riley Paul took advantage of the final restart and worked the outside groove to score the big win.

Walt Hovey returned to the drivers seat in the O.G. Street Stock feature to compete in this special event put on by Critical Speed, and he started the race with the lead. Tommy Silva quickly took over the top spot and built up a sizable lead while Zach Robinson and Matt Lowinski-loh sliced their way through the field. Trouble hit on lap 11 bunching up the front of the field for a restart. Robinson shot to the bottom of Silva and Lowinski-loh for a 3 wide move that didn’t stick, but it did allow Lowinski-loh to move into the lead. Robinson, SK Light Champion Nickolas Hovey, and Street Stock champion Aaron Plemons all worked by Silva into the top spots as the laps clicked down when a 9 to go caution shook up the field. Nickolas went for the lead under Lowinski-loh in turn 3 but by the time they went into turn 1, contact between Nickolas and Plemons resulted in the two going to the rear. But then Robinson pulled out of line on the next restart putting him near the tail of the field. Back at the front, Silva was back to give challenge to Lowinski-loh, but his dominance on the day wouldn’t be stopped as he picked up the win.

Speedbowl Truck competitor Ryan Lineham took down the win in the Pro-Truck Challenge Nationals. Billy Joe Prevost picked up his first win in the Compact Enduros after 100 grueling laps. Mini Stock regular Charles Canfield won the Full Size Enduro on a slick track just after his daughter Erica scored the Ladies Enduro win. Dave Macintosh won the first Mini Van Enduro, and Raymond Harrison scored the Truck Enduro win.

That does it for the 2025 season! Banquet information is being gathered and will be released to our media outlets soon. To keep up with the Speedbowl, please visit our website at www.SpeedbowlCT.com, follow us at The New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Facebook, or @SpeedbowlCT on Instagram and X.
