(Butler Township, Pa. 1-4-26) Since its introduction in 2021, the 602 Crate Modified class at Evergreen Raceway has seen remarkable and consistent growth each year. This division was established to give competitors the chance to participate in Modified racing, while also keeping costs more manageable compared to the higher expenses typically associated with Tour Type Modifieds. The class’s cost-conscious approach has made it an appealing option for racers looking to transition into full Modifieds.

In recent times, there has been a noticeable rise in young drivers who are eager to progress in their racing careers. Many of these aspiring racers have set their sights on competing in the Modified division, and the 602 Crate Modified car serves as an ideal gateway for them. The car’s characteristics and the structure of the 602 Crate class align closely with the ambitions of these up-and-coming talents, providing them with a practical and attainable path toward achieving their goals in Modified racing.

Evergreen Raceway promoter/owner Jason Makarwicz is now taking the initiative to help nurture those young drivers by adding a Rookie 602 Crate Modified class starting in 2026.

“The 602 Crate Modified class has really come into its own especially over the last two years and we see it only getting better. We were approached several times last season about the possibility of putting together a rookie class for some of the younger racers we have who want to move up but lack the experience in making the step up to a Modified,” said Makarewicz.

“We gave it some close thought and feel that adding a Rookie 602 Crate Modified class will be the right thing to do for them, rather than them just diving right into the deep end of the pool sort to speak. The class will be aimed strictly for younger drivers with limited experience with the intent on getting acquainted with these cars while they get up to speed.”

Rules will remain the same as the regular 602’s apart from a restrictor plate that will be added. You will need to be approved to run the class. There will be no points awarded or a champion crowned.

There is already several teams that are making the move up with more expected by the time the season gets underway in mid-May.

Anyone with questions is asked to call or text Makarewicz at 570-956-6347.
